yes, al, i did. i will download, and install, the programs that you mentioned. i’ve not used them before, but i will now. i forgot to mention it before, but i am also running popup manager, but was using it before, and had not problems with it. i’m also unfamiliar with mcafee, having always used norton, but i figured that i’d do it his way for once, what with all the help that he’s given me over the years. thanks for your help. i’ll post later and let you know how it comes out. take care and God bless.

    • oh, thank you, thank you, thank you both so very much, Jefferson and Hans!!!! yup, that did it! i found the path. i have it written down, too, so that i won’t lose it, either. now i can back everything up properly. i knew that by asking here someone would be able to help me. i simply couldn’t (and still can’t) figure out why search won’t find any of the e-mails for me. it always used to. the beast hasn’t worked right since it got virii’ed just before i left town. even though i did a reformat and a clean reinstall of windows, the beast has been hinky ever since. i have one more challenge that i will be posting on the windows section. i’m certain once again that someone here will help. again, thank you both so very much!!!! take care and God bless you both.

      hi!

thanks for the answer. sorry i took so long to reply, but i just got back from my trip, which was much longer than i had thought it was going to be. between your suggestion, and a bit of this and a bit of that, i have managed to get everything all together. i will be days, i think, clicking and dragging, but at least i’ll be able to get at my e-mail. i have another problem that needs to be asked, but i will do that one in another thread, even if it is outlook related. i have had more problems with this beast and its software (and hardware) over the last year or so than i have had since i bought it. a friend of mine that i ask a lot of questions of suggested this evening that i use it as an anchor for my non-existent boat. i am considering buying one just so that i can heed his suggestion! thanks to one and all for your help; my sweetheart and i appreciate it greatly. until the next time, take care and God bless.

      hi again hans!

i was trying to do it directly from a DVD. didn’t know i couldn’t. now, i have another problem. i did what you told me to do, and then tried to import the file. this is the error message that i am now getting:

OUTLOOK.exe has generated errors and will be closed by WIndows. You will need to restart the program.

An error log is being created.

i don’t have much hair left to pull out. any ideas as to where i should go from here? thanks for all your help; it’s greatly appreciated. i eagerly await your next post. until then, take care and God bless.

      hi unkanunka!

nope, i’m running win 2000 pro, not XP, so there’s no way for me to take ownership of the file. i’ve never had this problem before, and i have reformatted the hard drive, and reinstalled files, and imported personal folder files (.pst) more times than i care to think about. that’s why i wrote to all y’all, because i am frustrated, and just a bit upset, because what once worked no longer does. take a look as hans’s idea, and my reply to his suggestion.

of course, the rest of the past week and a half or so hasn’t been any better. i couldn’t answer your answer, or hans’s, until today due to the fact that we had a woodchuck(some people call them groundhogs), in our house (no idea how the heck it got here, either. it had been here for at least two days. based on what my husband said, but our cats didn’t say a thing; nor did they evince the slightest bit of interest.) it was in the library/office, which is where the ‘puter is. it took two calls to the cops, three different police officers, my husband coming home to set a trap (a haveaheart trap, for those who don’t like killing critters), several boxes, two briefcases, a broom used as a croquet mallet, and a lot of peanut butter. that’s all i’ll say, other than to say that it’s put me about three days behind and i have to get this all solved by no later than 1200 EST, as i am leaving town for the next month or month and a half, and the beast has to be running right before i leave.

so, i thank you for your help, and for the thought. i only wish that it had worked. do you have any other ideas? until the next time, take care and God bless.

      hi hans!

nope, it didn’t help. i tried it, and i got the following error message:

      An error occurred while applying attributes to this file: {it listed the file path}

      Access is denied.

this is frustrating, because i have done this several times in the past, and had no problem. this time, when i really need it, it doesn’t work. thanks for the thought, and for your help. any other ideas?

until the next time, take care and God bless.

    • in reply to: library template (office 2000 pro/win 2000) #968726

thanks for your help, hans. i have a few of the templates that microsoft offers. i was simply hoping that there was one, not necessarily a microsoft product, out there that included everything. i know that, with all the talent and knowledge that is floating around this board, this was the best place to ask, as there is always someone here that knows something about just about everything, so i asked. i guess maybe i’ll have to see if i can manage to combine all the templates into one great big one and use it that way.

again, hans, thankyou for your help. until the next time, take care and God bless.

    • in reply to: unlinking pictures? (pub2000/win2000sp4) #965821

hello to both rebel and herworth!

i just wanted to let you both know that i tried what you suggested, but neither worked. i went back to the friend that converted the file for me, and asked her what to do. she suggested that i select the pics that i wanted to ungroup, then click on CTRL-T, and that should do it. nope! didn’t work, either. i’m at a loss here as to what to do. unfortunately, i can’t get hold of the person that originally created the file. he has disappeared from the board, and no one knows how to find or reach him. alas and alackaday.
nonetheless, i wanted to say thankyou to both of you. i appreciate your offer of help. both suggestions seemed to me that they should have worked. it’s just that some days, you’re the pigeon, and others, you’re the statue. today, i’m definitely the statue! once again, thank you. until the next time, take care and God bless.

    • in reply to: open publisher file? (win 2000/office 2000 pro) #954433

thanks ever so much. i’d not thought of that before. i always assumed (yes, i know the meaning of the word! i just didn’t think {oops}…’nough said! doh ) that microsoft would do that. i always thought that the properties would tell me what version of a program was used to create a file, not what it assumed was so based on what version i was using.

heck, my answer is just as convoluted as my original question. hopefully, this will be the last time i have to ask for help with this challenge. nonetheless, thanks again for your help. take care and God bless.

    • in reply to: hotmail problem (win2000 pro) #906077

okay, bob, i’ll give the hotmail people a holler, if i can find out how to contact them. no, it’s not the only e-mail that i have. sometimes, i think that i have too many e-mail addresses.

to doc watson, nope, it’s not the number of people that are on-line because of the holiday, as i have been able to access hotmail from other computers, even the ones at the local library. in this case, it’s strictly on my computer that i am having problems. i sure as heck can’t contact the hotmail people from/via my e-mail, as the darned thing is now locking up on me as soon as i log on. i wanted to at least copy all my contacts and forward all the e-mails that i have there to another address, but i can’t get at a darned thing! i guess i’ll have to do it from another ‘puter, then delete the accounts, and go somewhere else, which is very inconvenient.

thanks to you both for your help and suggestions. i think i’ll just go out and shoot something… hairout

until the next time, take care and God bless.

    • in reply to: moving address book (Outlook2000/Win2000pro SP4) #880334

i know that it has taken me quite some time to find out what type of address book file i have; i humbly beg your forgiveness. life has been most interesting around here for the last three months bummer. yeah, i know… that’s no excuse! as i learned to say when i was in boot camp… no excuse, sir.

i found out that my address books are of the .WAB type. i have them saved as individual files in my personal file folder on the hard drive. as i asked before, how do i get the address books, or the info in them, into the address book in my current edition/version of outlook?

thankyou, as usual, for any help that you can point my way. i eagerly await the pearls of wisdom that come from all the wonderful people here. i can only hope that, someday, i will be as knowledgeable as all y’all and that i will be able to help someone in return. until that time, take care and God bless.

      thanks!

… for the suggestion and information. i don’t know if i understand quite what you mean by an “old Outlook format”, as i am using Outlook 2000, but, since it is now 2004, and there is a newer version, i guess that “old” qualifies. i cleared the checkbox as you suggested (it would be really nice if microsoft would allow us to choose how we want what we want, instead of assuming that they know best. wishful thinking, eh?), and looked at the file again. it’s a WAB type of file. now that this has been clarified, can anyone help me, please? to one and all, thanks for looking and for any help that you choose to send my way. until the next time, take care and God bless.
