I answered my own question…I downloaded Chrome’s remote desktop and it works great. Just a little strange to set up, but I even have dual monitor support (with scrolling). 🙂

      I have Windows 10 home.

I’m looking at Chrome’s remote desktop. Anyone every used that one?

I actually did, but it doesn’t work with Windows 10.

I went ahead and had my guy pre-install Office 2007 since I’m familiar with it and it was free. I might upgrade later.

Funny! Those are 3 stage additional fans. This puppy is cool.

Why have you got heaters in the front?

      Thanks everyone!
I’m trying to find the best imaging software for me and now for my office.
Terabyte image Looks good, but it’s $40.
In the free versions, which one do you actually use? Aomei Backupper, EaseUS ToDo, Paragon and Macrium.
I don’t need backups, just imaging/cloning (not really sure the difference).

Oh…., and I’ve got a spare laptop 500g drive that I’ll install as well while I’ve got it and it’s open and I’ll use that for my drive images. Question is, what software is best for creating an image? Just Windows version or are there others that are better and free or low cost? Should I only create one image with zero stuff installed or create an image 1x a month too? How large are image files?

      Thanks!!

Thanks everyone! Part of the above made my head start to hurt. 🙂 Interesting data for sure!!

I am having a local shop build one for me. Decided to go with an i7 quad-core with one 500g SSD to run the OS and files needed daily, then a 1Tg drive for pictures, 16g RAM, separate video card, etc.
Once I get the full specs tomorrow I’ll post what I ended up with re: brands. . It’s going to be like a Vette (btw I do actually drive a Vette) compared to a stroller (my current slow pc).

Thanks. Yes, the #3 option is the HUP program. I don’t see that any where in the near future that my wife will not work at that company in order for “me” to use that Office product…but is it worth it to go with the Pro Plus 2016 version vs. 365 vs. 2007? Are there differences that are worth it or is 2007 just as just as good?

BTW the 2007 version “comes with” my pc that is being built, so fully legit. I’m not worried about that version. Just don’t want to have to annie up money down the road or be forced to uninstall a version if employment status changes for either myself or my wife.

Thanks! I am actually contemplating getting one large SSD instead of two. That way ALL the data is accessed quickly. Agree?

My question on the location change of the data is if I move those files to a new location using thats method, will the programs automatically know where the new location is? ie: Quicken, Quickbooks, Outlook pst files, etc.? Or will I need to still open the programs and point them to where the new files are stored at?

Those are some good points. My plan is to get a 100-250 SSD to run C for Windows then have a 1T for all of the data.
Right now I have some data stored in C:Data and others at C:UsersAdminDocuments So, when I restore my files to the new 1T drive that’s a good point to redirect as the C:UsersAdminDocuments will probably default to the C drive, correct?

So, to clarify, does the re-directing actually move the file to the new directory (ie: c:data)? So, if I were to backup that new folder it truly is in c:data and would all of the program files that are in the Documents folder be found automatically in Windows in the new c:data directory?

Thanks! What do you mean by linking folders?
I do plan on making an image of the SSD that will have the OS on it. Sometimes though some programs like to install their files on the main (C:) drive even though you want ALL the data on the larger drive.
What image program do you recommend?

Get both an SSD and a high capacity HDD.
You’ll want to keep the SSD as lean as possible and a 100GB drive will do.
The second thing you’ll want to look into is linking many of your folders that store data in, to the
      higher capacity HDD.
On-line backups schemes are fine, but ensure you remain in control at all times, which means data on your system
that stays on your system. Tertiary backups can also be made to external drives and DVD ROM disks as well.

I FOUND IT!!! 😮 Greenshot is the best snag program out there and does EXACTLY what I was looking for. It allows for quick snags to stay on the screen with just the prt scr button. Ditto would only allow one image editor open at once. Check it out…

      I like that layout. Thanks!
I already use CrashPlan as my cloud backup for data. I do have some spare HDD’s that I could use to create an image that I can install internally or connect via USB. No use creating an image of this slow setup now.

If you are buying / building new I suggest the following.
      I5 CPU
      8 – 16 GB RAM
This gives you plenty of grunt and more than enough RAM for all your apps.

Video can be handled by the I5’s on-board graphics with most MBs having 2 video outputs.
For the 3rd monitor add a low end video card like the MSI GeForce GT 730.

If you want more processor / video performance you can use an I7 CPU.

Don’t forget an external 2TB backup disk and 3rd party backup program, then you can make an image of the SSD with the OS for a quick re-build and a file backup of the HDD.

      cheers, Paul
