Does XML Import / Export « Blog « WordPress.com or Wordpress Help Blog » export or Backing Up Your WordPress.com Blog « Lorelle on WordPress help?

      Hi Joe,

Not sure! I will try winSCP and 2Bright as they appear to be external to the blog but the other solutions, as far as I can tell, are for backing up *proper* WP blogs (installed on your own site) and that isn’t something I’ve got … yet. It’s irritating but not critical because I’ve not been that active as a blogger so even though the blog is a good few years old I have less than 50 posts and very few comments.

Hopefully my new blog on my own space will have a back up solution.

I will try the WinSCP/2bright ones tonight.

Turns out it was (primarily) lack of WINS assigned by DHCP.

Microsoft has “demoted” WINS from a “role” to a “feature” so when setting up a new 2008 DC WINS is not so obviously or easily (can’t remember which) installed i.e. you have to make a conscious choice to find/install it as a feature in the 2008 server management MMC.

Once I had installed that and configured DHCP to supply WINS server automatically the XP client worked fine.

      Hi Guys,

I went to visit my brother last weekend (he hadn’t actually tried to do anything, despite instructions sent … dunno why I bother) and I set the wireless extension up for him. I used the Trendnet access point I referred to earlier but named it the same as the broadband modem/router with the same security (as it happens none in his case) but a different IP and channel then put it elsewhere.

What I found was it worked but curiously, if devices could see the primary AP (the broadband modem/router) it would connect to that but in blind spots it would connect to the new WAP. So anyway my brother was very happy with that became he could access his stuff in his bedroom (which features a rather thick brick wall between him and the primary AP so couldn’t connect) … so that’s cool (and sad IMO)!

But anyway … thanks a lot for all the help and I just thought I’d let you know

    • in reply to: ESXi & Dell 490 #1162989

I suppose what I really want to know, since I have pretty much convinced myself that the way forward is to put a second 1TB drive in the system along with an existing 320Gb and an 80GB (configuring it with the OS on the 80, VM’s on the 320 and data partitions on the 1TB), is is the size of the drive relevant to whether ESXi can see it? IOW … if ESXi can see a 160GB SATA, is there any reason why it won’t also see a 1TB on the same controller?

UPDATE: It appears that the Dell 490 works fine with ESXi (ESXi can *see* the SATA drive of the system) … I understand the 490 has on-board SATA RAID but I have yet to establish whether or not ESXi can see such RAID arrays.

My next problem was trying to figure out what actual CPU was installed (it’s a Xeon 5130 but there are at least 2 variants, SL9RX & SLAGC and possibly SLAPB) and I needed some kind of program that would tell me the CPU’s actual sSpec (rather than remove the heatsink which looks complicated) so I could add an additional CPU (as far as I know these have to be perfect matches). My first thought was CPU-Z but that told me everything but the sSpec however a little research and I found the freeware program HWINFO32 which reveals a whole lot of system info and specifically told me the CPU was a Xeon 5130 (SL9RX).

Although it isn’t important right now the other thing I’d like to know is what other CPU’s the system … as far as I know it will go up to the Xeon 5160 (so probably will support the 5140 & 5150 as well) and can also support some quad core Xeon’s but I’m not clear on which ones (and DELL don’t seem to be easily forthcoming with the information, it’s been hinted by some that they are trying to push buyers towards some “T” series systems).

Anyway … if anyone knows anything about these things please reply

Update: No idea whether I recovered everything she wanted but thanks to you guys I did recover a lot of stuff for her and she was very pleased with what was done.

      So thanks

    • Just to update you guys on this, whilst I accept there may be licensing issues etc. the software did activate AOK.

I think it’s worth knowing that it can be done

This thread on the HP IT Resource Centre has a bit more information

Thanks .. I’m reading that through.

Have you spoken to the people in your company who run the OpenView stuff, I assume that it is the OpenView agent on your system that is supposed to open that port, but this will depend on how it has been configured.

Yes, they are the people I am liaising with … in many ways the problem is political, they view their servers as theirs and Wintel boxes as ours so if things don’t work on our boxes (even though they roll them out) we have to explain why it doesn’t work.

No, you can’t just “open a port”, the program that does this has to specify what code to run when something tries to connect. You need to understand why the software is not doing what you expect.

I did a quick Google search for HP OpenView “port 338” and nothing obvious turned up, what is the exact name of the product you are using?

      Hi Stuart,

All I know is that it’s HP OpenView on port 383 (not 338) … another group in the company runs the OpenView stuff.

The only way to “open” a port is from within a program. Do you know what program is supposed to be listening on Port 338?

The company uses HP OpenView which (apparently) needs that port open.

It appears that HPOV isn’t opening the port or something else is getting in the way … so there’s no way to specifically open it??

See ActiveSync Downloads – Windows Mobile Synchronization – Windows Mobile Device Center. You need to check the Compaq support site to see what version of Active Synch is supported.

Thanks … that worked a treat

I have configured both Wireless routers to use the same SSID, encryption method and password.

      [/indent]

You can do that? Don’t they conflict?

    • in reply to: Extending A Wireless Network? #1146297

Not quite the same problem but I just extended my own network using an old Netgear modem router … in essence I just put it on my physical network (upstairs … my primary router and connection to t’Internet is in my cellar/office), disabled all the advanced functions and configured a portable to access it.

It worked fine the only issue would be that if the portable is moved to another part of the house it may lose that signal but my 13 year old daughter (most frequent user of portable in question) is easily capable of reconfiguring wireless connections on it. When I have a bit of spare cash I’ll try and get a passive extension that allows free movement (no re-configuration required) around the house

      And this?

TRENDnet 300Mbps Wireless N Access Point

I think that one is better but it worries me that it is the MIMO tech or whatever … will it be compatible with the existing networks and 54g clients?
