It’s a dual processor box and one of the processors apears to have given up the ghost! Being a PIII/500 this may cause me problems in getting a replacement.

I’m rebuilding it as I type … I just have to hope that Win2K is enough of an improvement over NT that it will somehow auto-recover my stripe set (NT won’t)! I’m not betting on it! I’m open to suggestions about recovering my stripe set 🙂

      Hi Mark,

It wasn’t the exact solution but it led me towards the one I ended up with … I added the .cgi application mapping but that didn’t work so I edited to mimic the .pl mapping and that did. Then I found the script didn’t work perfectly so I ended up having to hack that too … hmmm … python seems easier at this point 🙂

Anyway … thanks for your help 🙂

      … well mainly.

Thanks Cowboydawg … it was, as the article suggested, an issue of wires and visibility of the receiver from keyboard/mouse … I get very few probs now 🙂

      Thanks mate

I’m guessing that implies using two cordless devices can be problematic! And I do run all my power cables etc. through the same channel … yarrgghhh!

      Thanks for your help 🙁

      Hi Cowboydawg,

Well I figured the position was good being higher than the desk and “visible” to the keybvoard and mouse however, yes, I will try that when I get home 🙂

The batteries should be good as t I only took delivery of the unit on Wednesday (two days ago).

      Hi Doug,

Yes the server is off at present … it will be on around 6pm (GMT) but it isn’t very exciting right now … just a test site.

      Thanks

      … appreciate the advice 🙂

      Hi Rory,

Yes that makes sense I guess … but should I just accept this and work from the internal IP or should I attempt to figure a way to view it externally?

I guess what I am after is getting the same response as anyone visiting my site and I can’t confirm that without trying externally I guess.

Sorry if I sound a bit muddled but comms isn’t my strong point 🙁

    • in reply to: Word (Office XP) #674685

      Hi Trish

Yes, I recently installed both on a PIII/500 for my wife however I have previously had the exact same issue on Win2K and Office 2K on a different machine which (to my mind at least) implies some kind of driver or office issue.

As you say Epson have not created a driver for this printer yet (presumably because it is considered to be well-supported natively under XP). I’m a UK user anyway and I don’t think the 5700 was typically available in the US/Canada.

All of my wife’s documents are new … I think the last time I used Word Perfect was back at the DOS v5.2 level (when computers were *real* computers grin).

Thanks for your help anyways smile

      Hi Hans,

Thanks for that … it worked perfectly! I can see this is the place to come for Access help 🙂

    • in reply to: Pop-Up Ads! (XP/SP1 (Patched)) #666540

Quick note to say thanks (particularly to Bruce but to the others as well) those threads really helped … I have a largely ad free installation of Kazaa, Bearshare, LImewire, WinMX & Overnet (Grokster seems a bit odd … brings up an interface almost identical to Kazaa). Anyway thanks 🙂

… I really don’t want MS’s ‘.net’ stuff at all, I don’t want anything that ties me in any closer than I have to be to MS … I simply want a system that, OS & chosen apps apart, functions as an entirely separate entity from MS … ultimately, though I am not anti-MS, it’s a point of principle that I should be able to run my machine without touching any MS server anywhere in the world withouit it being my choice and my choice alone 🙂

The problem I have is just one of the irritating popups … I don’t mind so much useful technical messages (you are connected at … “, “could not connect all drives … ” etc. but I object to having constant invites to “.net” popping up … it’s irritating.
