      Hi Leif,

I’ve been checking the non wireless version DG834 out and again I am unsure whether it includes a modem or not … it’s available on Amazon UK where it appears to have the ADSL modem but on Dabs it is being promoted as a router/firewall. One possible problem associated with NetGears (specifically the 602) is heat and there are some reports of radio interference.

I’m not sure about the looks of the NetGear range either but then, maybe it doesn’t matter as all it will do is go into the cupboard next to a 16 port switch.

      Hi Mark,

I was confused because, to me, broadband router implies that it is a router that can connect to a broadband service, which it seems it can’t.

      Now I know … thanks

      J.

… I got a new or recon unit back from HP and it, too, flashes the four lights (it was the right-hand side BTW, not the left as I first said) 8 times and does so regardless of format and will do so on a tape that is write-protected (ONLY & ALWAYS) and doesn’t do it when write-enabled. Just thought I’d let you know

      Hi John,

It could be but that seems a bit redundant since there is an actual write-protect indicator (the top one of the lights that starts flashing) comes on as a steady light. However that is indeed what it appears to indicate.

      Hi John,

Well I’ve looked all over their website and at the technical documentaion. Ultimately I will invoke warranty but I’d rather understand the issue first.

Just to let you know that the system is up and running again, unfortunately only on one processor, and by installing over the top of the previous installation I sucessfully recovered the stripe set 🙂

It’s a dual processor box and one of the processors apears to have given up the ghost! Being a PIII/500 this may cause me problems in getting a replacement.

I’m rebuilding it as I type … I just have to hope that Win2K is enough of an improvement over NT that it will somehow auto-recover my stripe set (NT won’t)! I’m not betting on it! I’m open to suggestions about recovering my stripe set 🙂
