… I had that problem too, it’s under networking products or some such! The manual is also incorrect in that the diagrams do not look completely like the board (one block of jumpers missing entirely and two normal length PCI slots where one is actually longer).

Anyway I finally got the keyboard working … that part was a case of user error I’m afraid 🙁

It’s academic now because the board has died I suspect because of having to continually plug/unplug the power cord because the whole jumper block concerning the power switch, LED’s, speaker and so on wasn’t functioning. I checked the BIOS with some care when it was working and could find nothing that would cause this behaviour nor could I find any jumper or reference to it that switched off the normal jumper block functionality.

Thanks for your help anyways 🙂

      Those replies were quick!

OK … so 8Mb cache is better.

What I am after is performance on a budget I suppose … I’m aware that SCSI (I used to be a big SCSI fan) is better but the budget aspect takes it right out of the equation as far as I’m concerned.

Redundancy isn’t really an issue as my most important data is stored on a server and that is backed up on DLT (monthly full with weekly differential) so performance is by far the key consideration. I can’t really afford the latest 10K disks either.

The weird thing is that even though I don’t store much stuff on my system the price of ATA disks is so low that the most cost effective drive is probably an 80Gb meaning my system will have an insane 320Gb on it! Sure I could try RAID 5 which offers some redundancy but I don’t really need it.

Thanks for the replies so far guys.

      Hi Guys,

Thanks for those responses … yes the device goes, then stops, then seems (I guess) to back up some, then carry on. The system it is on it a dual PIII/500 (ordinary, not Xeon) but will soon be replaced by a P4/1.7 so perhaps that will improve performance.

      Thanks again

      Hi Leif,

No it didn’t join a domain but I did find netware client & protocol on it (how I don’t know since he assures me I’m the only one to ever touch it and I never installed it when I built it) .. maybe that does something similar?

No worries on me posting the solution, I always try to do so … it seems the right thing to do to say thanks or explain how you did it as it may help others.

Found this on the net once I knew what to look for:

Control Panel/Users/Change the Way Users Logon/Welcome Screen or…

      Start/Run/Regedit Key
      [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINESOFTWAREMicrosoftWindows NT CurrentVersionWinlogon]
      Value Name: LogonType
      Data Type: REG_DWORD (DWORD Value)
Value Data: (0 = Classic Mode, 1 = Welcome Screen)

Create a new DWORD value, or modify the existing value, called ‘LogonType’ and edit the value according to the settings below. Reboot.

    • in reply to: Autorunning Batch Files At Boot #788611

      Hi Stuart,

Sorry I didn’t get back to you on this … unfortunately we had a major catastrophe with our Citrix farm the past week or so (the whole farm effectively collapsed forcing me to replace the three DELL’s originally running the farm with 5 Compaq’s).

Following your suggestion of using GPEDIT.MSC I have now configured my Citrix servers to restart on a weekly basis and to run a CMD file when they do. It all seems fine at the moment so my thanks for your help. My thanks also to John for his suggestion.

    • in reply to: Odd Boot Issue #764449

That said I think I have solved the issue … I now believe it was a video card issue (essentially I don’t think my previous cards have been entirely adequate to the task at hand). I found this out when I put my own video card in the machine and it worked perfectly (interestingly I couldn’t even fit the intended video card … the AGP slot on the new board has a divider incompatible with the old ATI AGP Pro 128 I was planing to use).

Thanks for your help anyway chaps 🙂
