Thanks Patt! The query ‘qry_Order_List_BO_Count_Display’; I need a ‘0’ when there is no value.

OK guys…. 2 nights, scheduled back up to external Ultra Dual HD Enclosure a success. The only thing I think is odd is, the HD Enclosure shows both drives ‘off’ (light for each HD is not on), but now, no matter when I try to access the files on the external drive, I can access the files w/ out issue, and the lights for the HD’s immediately light up, telling me the drives are awake and active. I do not have to run the VB Script in order to access the data. I am going to leave the VB Script scheduled for 1 minute before nightly back up just to be sure it works nightly. Can’t hurt. I’m not concerned about why it’s acting differently now, but it seems as if since the first time the VB Script was run, the drives now wake up on demand. Woods, again, I very much appreciate your help. I now feel confident enough to order some more of these $30 enclosures for other back up projects. The assistance received through this forum is absolutely incredible, no matter the issue. -KST

No. I was just running the script from Windows Explorer. So… Now, today, the drive seemed to be active w/ no action on my part. I could access the directories and files w/ no problem. I did go ahead and schedule the script file to run 15 min before the back up is scheduled each day. It will of course take 24 hours to see if it all works, but at this point, it looks to me like it will. Can you explain the script? Not in detail… but, does the script ‘wake’ my drive or does it keep it active 24/7? I will check the back up to ensure it runs tonight and post the results. Thanks Wood! I’ll be back in 24 hrs w/ results! -KST

I can still go to ‘Disk Management’, click on the drive, and then I’m able to access the directories w/ out the I/O error. -KST

OK. I created the folder and have the files inside. When I run the ‘script’ file, I get ‘Error: You need to supply a file path as an input parameter!’. So.. I think I need to put a file path for something in somewhere. I’m unsure if running the file changed anything yet, although I can see the directories on the drive now, but get an I/O error when I try to open them. Thanks for not testing me! 😎 Can you advise further? Thx! -KST

    • in reply to: Windows 7 / Canon iR4035 / Scan To Folder #1454759

I found a ‘Page File’ error in the Event Viewer about the same time that the scanner quit working.

I have set the Paging file size to ‘custom’ and increased the maximum size of the page file to 3X the memory size, as recommended by Microsoft.

Does any one have any thoughts on whether a scanner, scanning a large document to file, could cause the scan to file function to stop working if the Paging file size is too small?

Once the scanner stops working, the Windows 7 file server has to be rebooted before it will work again. However, all other Windows 7 machines can still read and write from the Windows 7 file server without reboot.

Still looking for anything that might cause the scanner to stop scanning to a shared folder after a period of time (or amount of data).

      Thanks!

Thank you Berton. I will check the router. The router has been in place the entire time. The previous file server was a Windows Server 2003 machine, in which there was not issue with scanning to a shared folder, so I have not looked closely at the router. I will check for a firmware update for it.

On the Windows 7 file server, I have scoured all of the power settings I can find to disable them.

      Thanks!

Make sure that the user has full permissions (read/write/create/delete) on both the folder containing the frontend and on the folder containing the backend.
Also make sure that the frontend file is not read-only (you can check this in Windows Explorer).

Hey Hans, we’ve checked that already. When I created the active directory of users and groups all the settings are the same as old server, but I have been reading up and windows is saying that even though folders permissions are set right that the ACL or ACE in server 2003 default permissions on new groups could be overriding the folder permissions. Im still looking into it. Thanks for your help. Let me know if you have any more thoughts on this!

    • in reply to: IP Masking / Using Different IP Address #1124991

I apologize, let me give you alittle more info…. I’m not actually trying to do this, I just want to know if it’s possible. I’m researching this for a client.

A password was changed. Records were subpoenaed, and the records indicate the password was changed using a computer at a specific IP address. That IP address belongs to a person who should not have been changing the passwords. The question is posed…. could someone else have changed the password from another IP address using masking / spoofing software.

I think it’s possible, but not probable.

I wanted to know what you guys think.

      Thanks!

Thank you Joe. So, in your opinion, it would be possible for me to appear as if I were using your computer? Obviously, I would need to know your IP address, and possibly some other info, but would this be possible?
