Thanks for the prompt responses, guys. That was just what I needed. As a reward, I’ll let you solve another one.

How can I get a label caption to show the rightmost zero after a decimal? For example,

      lblPay.Caption = “$” & (lblHours.Caption * 10.15)

      If lblHours.Caption is 10, then lblPay.Caption shows $101.5. I want it to display $101.50.

I have tried setting the DataFormat property to currency and number with 2 decimal places.

      Any thoughts? Thanks.

Thank you very much, Bryan. That’s exactly what I needed.

Nope, there are no dial up connections listed.

No, that’s not the same problem. That thread is talking about spontaneous dial outs. My problem is unwanted dial outs through Internet Explorer only, with no other programs running.

Eurika!! I found the cause of this problem!

I posted this problem twice on the board, and no one could give me an answer. It took me 6 months, but I finally solved it.

I finally had enough time to completely reload my system from scratch. As I was reloading my apps, I kept trying to get the system to fail. When I loaded one utility program that I have been using since Windows 95 and 98, the system gave me the same error condition that I had been getting before. I was able to do a restore to get the system back where it was before the installation, and everything has been working fine since.

The name of the utility is “Split Shell Extension v2.0a for Windows95 and Windows NT 4.0.” It is a file splitting app for cutting large files down to floppy size. It installs as a shell extension, which apparently XP has a problem with.

Just though I’d pass along what I have learned in hopes that I can ease someone else’s frustrations some day. Watch out for those older apps!

    • in reply to: Direct Cable Connection Fails (Win XP Home) #576621

When I got cable modem, I bought a D-Link Internet gateway (which is nothing more than a router). I tried for hours to establish a network with my XP Home machine and 2 Win 98 machines. The way I finally got it to work was to install NETBUI on all machines and create a setup diskette in the XP network wizard. I then used the setup disk to configure networking on the Win98 machines. When I rebooted all machines, there it was–a perfectly operating network. I also have file and printer sharing enabled on all of the drives.

I have not experimented with any other methods or protocols, but I believe this is the best way to network these types of OS’s. NETBUI is not routable, so its traffic doesn’t appear on the Internet side of the router. Network speed is plenty fast for me. I haven’t seen any drawback to using this method. I hope this helps.

No. I am running XP Home. Evidently it doesn’t make a difference.

Wow! I have been getting exactly the same symptoms as you describe, and I thought it was my cable ISP’s fault.

    • in reply to: cookie pal and XP #571612

Cookie Pal 1.7a works great with Windows XP. It will intercept your cookies before Internet Explorer does. If you are going to use Cookie Pal all of the time, then you can tell IE to accept all cookies. I would tell it to reject third party cookies anyway just in case, but that’s your call.

    • in reply to: Windows Explorer Has Encountered a Problem #568215

I don’t think it applies in this case. Apparently the setupwbv.dll file that it is looking for doesn’t exist in XP–I did a search on my HD for the dll and it came up empty. nope

    • in reply to: Windows Explorer Has Encountered a Problem #568054

Thanks anyway, but the article doesn’t apply to XP and IE6, which is what I have.
