Amazing, Sandisk use to be a brand we could trust. In my case, the Micro SD was used for extra storage on my wife’s HP tablet. It had so little memory and storage, you had to use the SD card just to do software updates. Anyways, I was junking the unit by recovering to factory and that’s when I tried to reclaim the SD card. Bet that SD card went bad long ago and that is why the tablet stopped updating and became so dang slow. She has a newer one now with lots of memory/space so this one can go to grandkids.
Will look into converting from windows 10 to android or linux

Very interesting to learn about the “NAND Read Write Limits”.  I always knew any storage media had RW limits, so that may be the problem.

I ran the GRC Validrive, says no valid storage detected:

I also found the program H2Testw on MajorGeeks (referenced from an article on Darwinsdata.com on how to check the life of an SD card). Provides a little different info. Again this program confirms the media is defective.

So, This SD Card goes to the Trash Bin.

Thanks everyone for your help, I learned some new tools.

Downloaded and ran INITDISK.  gave it the NUKE command.  I still have the same problem.  the program unmounted the SD card, rewrote the MBR and FAT file system and brought back online.  Windows still says the file system has problems – corruption was found while examining the volume bitmap.

Step 5 “create part primary” timed out, so I downloaded the “SD Memory Card Formatter”.  it recognized the SD card type and size.  I selected the “overwrite format” and after a long time it completed successfully.  I ejected the SD card and re-inserted and again got the message “SDXC (D:) there’s a problem with this drive.  Scan the drive now and fix”.  Selecting the “Scan and fix” then “repair drive” resulted with the message “Windows was unable to repair the drive”.  So I tried a “Quick Format” with this program and got the same successfully completed message.  It knows the file system is exFAT, capacity and Free space both 59.4GB with cluster size 128kb.  So the SD looks good, but when I look at it in File Explorer, it still shows all the files/folders with only 14.1 GB free.  Interestingly, FE again allowed me to delete all the files/directories but ejecting and re-inserting the SD still has all the files/directories.  So the SD formatting program thinks it worked but did not.

      Thoughts?

Thanks Dana, that worked in Outlook.  -400 is a good value for my aging body.  will let you know if any other apps fail.

Thanks Sudo, interesting about System Restore, I will begin using Image Backups.  That being said, I have Outlook 2024 working but had to use a Microsoft Registry fix https://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/outlook_com/forum/all/outlook-set-of-folders-cannot-be-opened-unable-to/8267f2f9-035d-4926-a16e-50c965ec8c35

For others who get into this upgrade pickle, here are my successful steps:

Back up my documents and pictures (will use Image Backup going forward)

      Uninstall Office 2010

      Reboot

Sign into Microsoft account and download my Office H&B 2024

Click on downloaded file to begin Install

After Install completed successfully I pinned each app to my taskbar

      select Outlook from taskbar

Outlook tried to auto connect to Gmail using the old profile and failed with the error “Outlook – set of folders cannot be opened”.  I searched microsoft for the fix in the link above.  Per the fix, I deleted the “Outlook” profile in the 2016 folder.

      Rebooted

Restarted Outlook and the Auto Connect worked connecting my new Outlook 2024 to my Gmail account.

I then “Added” a new profile for my ATT.net email and it also worked perfectly.

Hope this helps anyone else who runs into this upgrade issue.

I have an “Automatic Restore Point” from 24 hours prior to activating and downloading Office 2024.  I also have a copy of my PST files I made just prior to installing Office 2024.

IF I restore to the prior day “Restore Point”, will this update Microsoft or do I need to UNINSTALL Office 2024 first, then do the “Restore”.

After the restore I will uninstall the old Office 2010 before downloading/installing Office 2024.

      Thanks

Thanks Clint, never looked at an MSI system – pricey is RIGHT. Are they any good? High quality components? May still opt to custom build another tower for less $$$$

Good points Jerry, over the years I have had issues with CPU’s (have 3 laptops, one with bad screen, two with cpu’s that need re-soldering to the motherboards that family has given to me to try and fix some day). Its a trade off between no wires with the all-in-one vs flexibility with the tower.

May be time for a trip to Frys and find a case to fit my needs and buy all the components (I always prefer the manufacturer full features vs the crippled software from pre-built machines).
