You need a pdf reader, not necessarily Adobe. Use Foxit Reader and skip all of Adobe’s security problems and constant updates.

Uninstall RegCleaner, as it will probably screw up your registry. use Revo Uninstaller to clean up leftover files from uninstalls, and CCleaner.

If that’s the same friend who did the first fix, you’ll need to have the whole thing overhauled again. Drive E should have been only a COPY, and then you should have unplugged it. And the fact that the trojan is gone doesn’t mean your files weren’t damaged.

Enjoy your XP until at least 2020. I will.

And no, you can’t download XP legally from the internet.

Until the end, I thought it was Photoshopped. Going to show it to my cat and shame her.

Irfanview plays flv independent of browsers. It’s my default player for flv and mov.

    • in reply to: Cute Baby Pygmy Hippo #1214382

Baby hippos should never grow up and should remain pint sized so that I may keep them as pets. 🙂

Looks like a chubby dog or pig. This one might NOT get larger. It’s actually a baby PYGMY hippo. Couldn’t understand much of what the keeper was saying, strong Aussie accent.

    • in reply to: cd/dvd drawer sticking #1212077

I get the same problem with other brands, including Lite-On, and a temperate dry house. And a bent clip is much better than a pin, because the tip has more surface. I keep one hanging from the side of each comp. 😀

I always thought it was a spring, not a rubber band drive. Is it circular like a vacuum cleaner belt? I could really revive a whole boxful of them. I’ve already disassembled a DVD drive that had 2 DVD’s stuck together (my customer let me keep the drive, as she had already replaced it. )

But TV technicians around here would not be friendly enough to sell me any. Any place online for these?

–I’ve had HP printers for years, and also had many reinstalls. HP makes good printers with lousy software that keeps getting corrupted.

–When the popup box asks for a disk, is it looking for maybe the Word or Office disk? Try to re-create this for me.

–You said “when installing off of the HP site,”. Do you save the installation file to your HD, then install, or do you run it from the little download box?

–Next time you have to uninstall, try RevoUninstaller, which will squeeze out every last drop of the original install, including every registry entry. Then reinstall.

    • in reply to: HDD and Optical Drive Repair #1212072

HD’s do some self-repair of sectors with programs like HDDRegen, but it’s not visible to the eye. Checkdisk will repair bad file areas, but again it’s not visible. Troubleshooting is a different topic altogether, as it’s really software repair.
