But if you’re not sure you want to delete them, make a special folder for files that are in that twilight zone. I call mine “AAAA” on my Data partition (you can put it anywhere you want,) and it’s just for such temporary storage.

People who talk at full volume on their cell phones so every one around them is aware of their personal problems.

People who bury their head in their cell phones and are totally unaware of the world around them, including you.

People with bluetooth receivers attached to their ear. You feel like your conversation with them is just a filler between their phone calls.

I can’t rate these, as they all cause me to grind my teeth.

Has MS bought Skype while I wasn’t watching?

    • in reply to: Email addresses #1339322

What Doc said, plus the fact that people change their email addresses or have several at once. I have 5. Then there’s guerrillamail.com, which gives you an email address for 60 minutes, long enough to register at a questionable site….

“File” is in the menu bar, can’t be moved to or duplicated in the toolbar. That’s true of every Windows application.

CCleaner’s registry cleaner is very conservative, but I’ve stopped using it anyway. I use Revo for uninstalling programs, and the registry entries it removes are enough. Extra lines in the registry do no harm. It’s just 2 text files.

    • in reply to: How to sort desktop icons — for keeps #1260891

I’ve been using Icon Restore for years. Turn off Auto-arrange, make your arrangement, right-click and “save.” Any time it’s messed up, right-clink and “restore.” If YOU change the arrangement, it overwrites the old one.

And don’t use registry cleaners. They cause more harm than good.

    • in reply to: Standard folder structure query #1260889

They’re for settings that apply to specific programs, and are put there upon installation. When you uninstall a program, the entries disappear, so you don’t have to worry about doing any maintenance on those folders. However if you’re using Mozilla Firefox or Thunderbird and several other programs, the entries are your program profiles and should be backed up.

I like SuperFinder, much faster than the Windows one, and more thorough.

You can also use the filters under Tools>Message Filters. i also use that to sort messages from certain people into subfolders.

    • in reply to: Want to reinstall Windows XP, but no original CD #1232231

For those who can’t find any CD to install from, you could always try http://bootdisk.com/

James–those are bootdisks for an existing system, not the system itself. The OP wants to clean-install or repair-install.
