As our Project Manager said when I forwarded this to him – “Awesome!” Thank you for your help.

I think it will, Hans. I’ll have to try out some of the examples given in the article. I didn’t know the correct term to search for. As always, I appreciate the quick response. Thank you.

Thank you, thank you! I’ll bet that’s the answer. You’re right, in that I haven’t discontinued my old ISP account, and I’ll bet these people are still using that address. I’ll try changing the settings tonight. Again, many thanks.

You guys are wonderful. That did it. Thank you very much to both you and Steve for the quick response! That’s why I love this lounge.

Thanks, Tony. I tried this with 11/14/1981 in B3, and the result appeared as 1/23/1900 0:00. The answer should be 23 years on 11/14/2004. What am I doing wrong? Is it because of the way the person entered the dates, or what? I’m afraid to use the second formula because if they open the worksheet in 2005 it would change the age, and they need it to stay as of 2004, I believe.

    • Thank you both for your suggestions. Leif, I was able to find a “Receipt Requested” field (which I hadn’t known existed) in field chooser, and I think that will satisfy the user. In Outlook 2000, the other fields apparently haven’t been added as yet. Thanks again for your help.

    • in reply to: Dot leaders in cells? (Excel 2k/SR-1) #647511

That’s a neat trick, Leigh. I hadn’t run across the “fill” option before. I passed on the suggestion to the attorney. One thing I noticed, however. In cell A2, for example, we have the name of the account, in B2 a dollar figure, and so on down the list. He wants the dot leader to fill from the end of the name in A1, B1, C1, etc., to fill to the end of that cell. I inserted a new column B, and used your . and fill trick, and that worked well. However, when I tried to merge the cells in column A and B, it wouldn’t let me. It keeps only the initial period, and not the filled information. Regardless, it’s a good option for me to know, and I thank you for your suggestion.

Thanks for the suggestion. I’m not sure that will work for him, but I’ve passed it on for him to try. Thanks again.

    • in reply to: Mail merge ‘unable to display Contacts’ (OL2K/sr-1) #647330

Hallelujah! That solved it. What we can’t understand is what happened to cause it not to work. It was still working last month, and we’d all been using various forms of it. At least we know what to do to fix it now. Thank you very much. My colleagues think I’m a miracle worker, and it’s all due to you folks in the Lounge.

You were correct. It did still work in Outlook. However, what solved the problem was the answer in the next post. Thanks for your help.

We’re a law firm and we have been preaching that users should not be using the Track Changes option, since it can allow others to see changes you’ve made if not properly handled. Because we’re a law firm, we use CompareRite as our “red-line” option instead of Track Changes. Additionally, we try to tell users not to re-use the same document, as there is metadata stored with the original that can be viewed when the document is transmitted electronically. (You’ll note the fact that we TRY to tell them . . . doesn’t do much good!) In the event that they do copy from another document, we preach the use of our “Metadata” macro, that helps to clean up some of the background information – like who originally created the document, etc., but it’s not as complete at the metadata cleanup program offered by Payne Consulting.

If you want to see what the metadata fuss is about, open a document that’s been used frequently with the “Recover text from any file (*.*)” option in the “Files of type:” section of the Open window. Particularly at the end, you’ll see all sorts of information that you didn’t know was there. By the way, when you open another document, be sure you change the “Files of type:” option back to your usual (All Word documents, or whatever) before you open it, because it doesn’t change back on its own.

      Hope some of this helps.
