When my tables go bad I just smile my coldest smile, wave my wand, and dissolve the little beasts back into ordinary text (Table/Convert/TABLE TO TEXT).

Then (with all the text from the table still highlighted) I poof them back into a fresh new table (Table/Convert/TEXT TO TABLE).

This usually clears out the cobwebs, unless it was a terribly complicated table to start with, in which case I just invoke that wonderful old magic spell

Maybe Mail Merge could handle this.

It’s been a while since I’ve set one up, but, as I recall, fields in various documents can be instantly auto-populated with information that has been entered into a table in a separate source document. The source document table could be updated for the current new hire info.

Maybe the individual docs could even be combined into one large doc, and all populated at one time.

Would you get something useful by inserting a temporary table of contents? The TOC styles can be defined as you like.

We generally work with an “Exactly” paragraph line spacing, but when that setting mutilates objects, we switch to “At Least”, which works similarly to “Single”, but allows for multi-line spacing.

I usually have a style named “Text” as my base paragraph style, set to the “Exactly” setting, and then, in the above scenario, I create a “Text 1” style, based on

I like to blame printer drivers for this sort of thing. We used to see something like that in this office before we all got the same type of printer.

Back in the old DOS days, as I recall, Word referred to collections of styles as “style sheets,” and stored styles in its “Gallery” rather than in templates. The author of your contract specs may be a Word old-timer. I wonder if I know her…

Remember that the last row in the table should NOT be marked “Keep with next,” as that will just glue the whole table to the next following paragraph or paragraph mark, which may push the last row or rows, even if marked “Keep with next,” to the next page.
