    • in reply to: Autoshapes wrongly positioned in 2007 after copy #1224476

Do the 2003 workbooks open OK in 2007 – in other words do they move when you open the workbook in 2007? Also, I can’t find any reference to Autoshape 803 or 928? Are they custom autoshapes?

That is what is strange. They open fine. They look okay – but if you try and copy and paste them they go pear shape. The diagrams have been around for a while so I cannot track down where the autoshapes came from. Can you make your own? Maybe they can be tweaked.

The first type I’m familar with. These beauties are not those type nor are they listed in the CommsAddIn dialog – I dug them out using the VBA code snippet. I guess I’ll just have to go hunting.

Any idea on how I can find or disable those AddIns?

    • in reply to: template saved property always false (2003) #1146481

No – they aren’t mone (those were the ones I could find and remove – which didn’t help). They are:

      DYMO AddressFixer AddIn – DYMOAFWordAddIn.Connect

      DYMO LabelWriter Addin – DymoOfficeAddIn.LabelWriterAddIn

      PDFComplete – officepdf.PDFComplete

Microsoft Word East European Fonts Tool – WordEEFonts.Connect

Great article. Mixed results. There were about 260 files that could need to be deleted – not all could be – but I carried on. Problem still there.

winword.exe /a – fixed the problem! Great, so I removed Normal.dot (actually had done that before but I was being systemic). Problem still there.

So now I removed everything from the startup folder. Problem still there. Tried the ddeauto – only thing still showing was normal. Did the List Addins but was unsure what to do with the information. Problem still there.

Removed Data key. Problem still there.

Do you have any more suggestions?

Actually – it still does this even without the macro (and Letter.dot is only an example, I’ve been told a couple do this). But here it is.

The template has no autotext or toolbars attached to it. The only macro is AutoNew to go to a bookmark. People on XP with the same templates have no problem.

Thank you – works a treat.

    • in reply to: Why does grey print as black? (Word) #1135784

It’s a Konica Minolta and the driver is PCL-6 KM4.4.20c – and this is set and can’t be changed (greyed out). I know what you mean about things not connected, a few years ago a printer stopped working – for no reason at all. Turns out someone needed more room and shoved the printer along a little except there was this telephone cable in the way so she unplugged it … brickwall

Thanks for your help … I’m hoping someone has an Ah Ha moment … oh this telephone plug thingy?

Would have been good – but that isn’t it.

    • in reply to: Defaulting to Office XP (2007) #1135646

Unfortunately the ‘Open With’ only gives the 2007 options. Even if I use Browse and navigate to the correct exe (in theXP directory) it still opens with 2007.

Good news is that changing the style is a fix – just thought I’d let people know.

    • in reply to: Incorrectly thinks document is Word 6.0/95 (Word 2003) #1113007

Good emphasis – when I went and looked at the user’s options it said save as Word document (*.doc) – but it also had the “Disable features introduced after Word 95” ticked!! (Although how it became ticked – or why 95 was even listed as an option – is something I’m not going to waste time chasing down).

    • in reply to: official from Microsoft re Word docs crashing? #1107341

And the most necessary thing to change down here is font and default spelling. No-one wants Times New Roman nor English (US). Problem is that when there is corruption and you have to delete Normal.dot it gets recreated that way again. Don’t suppose there is a way to tweak that? (We usually keep a vanilla Normal.dot stashed away when needed – but it is one more thing to remember to do)

    • in reply to: Save causing intermittent crash (Word 2000) #1098418

It is pretty irregular. I tried over 30 times and got it to happen once. I then put in the “fix” tried again – couldn’t reproduce. Then someone else opened the doc teh next day and Word froze. Different symptom – I guess but nit one I saw at all. Seems to be limited to certain docs initially with external links (but apparently versions with pictures of the external data have also crashed!) and the intranet. (Won’t happen on my standalone system at all – at least I could not get it to crash).

Currently trying the version with the Resume Next back in. So far so good. crossfingers
