Well I just received my new keyboard and when I plugged it in I started having the same problems. Both keyboards are Microsoft Ergonomic Natural 4000. The temporary keyboard had zero problems but the same problems with the MS 4000 both plugged into the same USB port and I also tried other USB ports and still had the strange behavior.. Does anyone have a suggestion as to what is the problem. Is it a Motherboard problem?

    • A short while ago I purchased a Plextor 256 gb SSD to replace the 850 gb regular drive in my laptop which had 3 partitions on it. A recovery partition, the C drive and a data drive and I did not have much on the C and D drive. The clone software that came with the Plextor drive needed a hard drive enclosure connected with USB 3 and the new SSD plugged into the laptop. The cloning software ran in DOS and shrunk the size or the C and D drives and cloned all 3 drives perfectly with no problems at all. The recovery partition even works exactly like it did on the old drive. ( I just barely started the recovery to see if it works.) I did have to resize the two partitions as the C drive was to large but that was minor. My laptop now boots in 30 seconds and installs and updates are blazing fast. The software Plextor uses is “NTI Echo” and it was simple to use and it works.

      Hope this helps someone.

I changed to a backup keyboard the day I started this thread and have had zero symptoms of the problem. One earlier day when experiencing the problem I changed to a different mouse but still had problems so I kind of ruled out the mouse as causing the problem.

Today I ordered a new keyboard just like the last one a Microsoft Natural Ergonomic Keyboard. The old one was a used on that I purchased from a computer repair shop so I don’t know how long/much it had been used before I bought it. I did really like the layout though.

So I think the problem was a bad keyboard. Thanks to you who replied with idea’s and suggestions..

You talked about how Cloning software that comes with SSD’s is not very good. I beg to differ. I had a 850 gb drive (nearly empty) and purchased a 256 gb Plextor M5 Extreme and the cloning software that came with the drive was excellent. I had 3 partitions on the old drive, a recovery partition, a C drive and a Data drive. The clone software shrank the partitions to comparable sizes and all data including Win 7 x 64 with zero problems or mistakes. I had a HD dock enclosure USB 3.0 and when I installed the new cloned HD my laptop booted in 30 sec normally. Plextor makes a great cloning software program.

      DrWattsOn ,
That was some ‘very good’ information and yes that was just what I needed to hear and what I was originally asking. Thank you so much. There are so many smart people on this forum.

Both of my drives specify “USB 2.0” and my MB is over 2 years old so unfortunately it seems the only solution for me is to be happy with usb 2.0 or get a new card or a new computer. Thanks for the discussion and insight. Thanks everyone!!

      RetiredGeek,
      This is copied from a WD pdf;
Dual USB 3.0 and USB 2.0 connectivity
A single drive with universal compatibility today and next-generation speed for tomorrow. Use it with USB 2.0 now and step up to USB 3.0 speed when you’re ready.
Up to 3x faster transfer rates
When connected to a SuperSpeed USB 3.0 port this drive lets you access and save files up to three times faster than USB 2.0. Transfer a 2-hour HD movie in just three and a half minutes instead of 13 minutes.*
*Performance may vary based on user’s hardware and system configuration.

I found it in their FAQ sheets Item #14: Specifications for the My Book Essential USB 3.0 & 2.0 External Hard Drives
      Found on this page; http://wdc.custhelp.com/cgi-bin/wdc.cfg/php/enduser/std_alp.php?p_cats=&p_pv=3.316&p_prods=228%2C209%2C316&p_search_text=&p_new_search=1

It sounds like the drives can be for both 2.0 and 3.0 if the computer is capable. If I am reading it correctly..

      For Retired Geek,
I read a PDF from WD that said the drives (2.0) would utilize 3.0 if plugged into a 3.0 slot. As for “unless your computer’s ports are electrically USB 3.0” could that be accomplished by flashing the BIOS on the MB?

One thing readers need to be aware of is that the new ‘Beta’ version of ‘any’ of the Windows Live’ family makes the security suite of “Vipre” fail to start. Lots of people who have used this program for months find when they install Windows Live “Beta” that when they reboot their computer that Vipre fails to start. The fix to repair this is to uninstall the “Beta” that was just installed. There is a serious conflict with this Beta.

This site is owned by AOL. Need I say more? I can not find ‘any’ link that I can use to contact the administrators except to pay for ‘Premium” access.

I did thought find out what may be stopping access. This morning after I booted I found I was able to use Chrome to view any of the episodes but after i started the program “Bit Comet” I found that I could no longer access any. Stopping the program did not help but I just rebooted and without starting any other program found I can stream the show. Strange Huh? Don’t know why but Bit Comet seems to be the problem. Idea’s?

Add move to/copy toto the right click menu.

No, the method you point to is nice but not what I used in XP. On the left side of every explorer window is what is called (I guess) the Navigation Pane. There was a command to “Add Common Tasks” which added those options to the navigation pane. There is a set of commands available in the Menu Bar/edit drop down box but is is not as convenient as the common tasks being in the navigation bar.

      Peter,
I have Win 7 Home Premium and it does have the Security Tab and then the tab “Owner” to change the permissions. I found the answer using the built in Help that is referenced by links in the pages to change permisssions. I had tried to do this but could not get the correct way but I read the help pages and they led me to the right combination of steps to get the ownership changed.

Forget it. I just fixed the problem and can now view all of the picture’s.

    • in reply to: Cannot delete 5 files #1204594

      Hey Jude,
I am unable to move the file. Anywhere!
I am using Vipre 4 Premium for AV, AS and Firewall. I have not tried System Restore as this install of Win 7 is only about 30 hours old and see no reason to do one as the file would still be there as it was created during the install. I do think I would be able to do one if needed.
      Jim

Here is a screenshot of the error when I try to unlock one of the files.
