Just a wild guess based on AndrewO’s numerical observation… Have you checked your output document to see if the 15th record is being placed in the text box at the top of the 2nd page? Maybe it’s out of sight, below the first line of the text box. …J.Till

    • in reply to: Downloading Word templates from Microsoft (Word 2000) #622273

With this clarification of your problem, I do not know the answer. (I am not using Word2000.) I hope another Lounger can provide more help than me. ….J.Till

    • in reply to: Downloading Word templates from Microsoft (Word 2000) #622161

After the template has downloaded to Word on your machine, in Word, “File”…”Save As”. Give the file the name that you want the template to be. Then, in the file type section, use the drop down box to choose template as the file type. Word will save it as a template, with a .dot ending, in the same place as your other templates. ….J.Till

    • in reply to: Inordinately slow file closure (Word 97) #615232

Brian, I am having a similar (but not exactly the same) problem on a Pentium2. Are you seeing this problem only in Word? Or is it appearing (and this is my problem) in other programs including Windows Explorer indicating it is more of a file-processsing problem than a Word problem. For me this is an intermittant problem and I am wondering if I am having ram failure.

    • in reply to: A Print and a Reboot! #611417

Is this problem being caused by the PC or by the printer? We need to isolate the problem. To find out, follow Lief’s suggestion and try to print with the printer data cable unplugged at the PC.
If the problem seems to be caused by the printer, 1) Possible bad data cable as mentioned, 2)Maybe the printer is going bad and creating a momentary electrical power problem causing the PC to lose power and reboot. Can the printer electrical cord be plugged in elsewhere to see if the problem persists? 3)Can printer vibration be causing a bad connection, data or electrical?
If the problem is being caused by the PC, could any printer ports have been changed or activated by the recent software changes?
This is a tough problem. Good luck. …..J.Till

    • in reply to: Word loads on boot (XP/XP) #605545

Well, I don’t have XP on my PC, but let me offer a suggestion or two anyway.
Perhaps Word is coming back because it is still, in some way, active when you shut the computer down. Before you shut down, can you look at the Task Manager to see if Word, or anything that could cause Word to be called, is listed.
Does the error recovery that you mentioned have anything to do with Outlook and is Word your chosen editor for Outlook? Maybe this is just part of the error reporting process.
      Good luck. …J.Till

    • in reply to: Crazy Quotation Marks (2000 SR1) #605542

      You are welcome.
The other people who had this particular problem and Windows setup are also from Australia. Apparently someone does not realize that the language of Australia is…similar to English.
I am mildly curious as to the common element of the Windows setup. Is MS Windows software making this choice? Or a particular vendor? Oh well, I’m glad your problem is solved. …..J.Till

    • in reply to: Character Maps + Unicode (97+) #589544

A slight tangent… There are alternatives to the Character Map that appears with “Insert”…”Symbol”. One is the Extended Character Map, which shows all fonts available, and is bigger (more readable) on screen. It is not a Word add-in, but can be used with Word. • in reply to: Disk is Full (Word 2000 SR1) #587584

I have had this problem with a large file with a ton of character formatting (no lectures, please). I did not find any solution except to save without changes and then break the document in half and work it in 2 separate parts. Good luck.
This problem has appeared in this forum before. Post 131091 Post 44017 Post 85859 and others. …J.Till

    • Unfortunately, I have no further suggestions. It does appear that your problem is not a MS Word problem but perhaps a Windows operating system problem. I can only repeat J.Scher’s suggestion to post this problem in another Woody’s Lounge forum, perhaps for your version of Windows. You can click on “Main Index” at the top of the page to see a list of forums. …J.Till

    • lyndy4, This post repeats some points from earlier posts.
      1. Can you tell us what printer is installed (chosen as the default printer). Even if you are not connected to a printer, you still have to choose a printer so that Windows can tell what fonts are printable. This is accessed through “Settings”…”Printers” or maybe “Control Panel”…”Printers”. Have you tried picking a different printer (which will install a different printer driver)?
      2. Can you use the fonts OK in Wordpad or Notepad, with a new document?
      3. If you have MS Excel, or another part of MS Office, can you use the fonts in that program?

Have you checked in the in the Control PanelAdd Remove to see of any of the programs have listed themselves there and can easily be uninstalled?
