This advice is bases on Word 97. You can tell me if it still applies in Word 2003.
Summary: With the text box selected with the cross hatching on the outside (not the lines), use Control and the arrow keys to move the text box very small distances.
Text boxes have two types of “selection”. One is with slanted lines outside the box. This lets you edit the text in the box. But if you click again on the wall of the text box, there is a cross hatching outside the box. Then you can move the box a little with Control and arrow keys.

Alan, the link you provided for “Pricelessware-Multimedia” is their 2004 recommendations and is not being updated.

TextPad is a good editor. But it is not free; it is shareware. Also it has not been updated in several years, causing some to wonder about its future.

PrimoPDF Version 3 attempts to access the internet without any user permission, notification, or explanation. This has been mentioned in their forums; but nothing has changed. My thread is in the bugs forum, “PrimoPDF3….3 comments”. There have been other threads in the installation forum. Make sure you have a firewall. I have used this program in the past, but no more. This internet-accessing-behavior is too rude. ….J. Till

I’m not sure I understand the problem but could it be font specific? Do you see this problem with other fonts? Do you see this problem in a text editor? How about a different font in a text editor? Could your Times New Roman be corrupt?
      Maybe this helps. J. Till

    • in reply to: Freeware Screen Capture Programs #1036134

Thanks, Hans, for the update info. And thanks to all for the suggestions, comments, and criteria evaluation. Both WinSnap and FastStone Capture seem like well-crafted programs with clear interfaces. In the end I went with SnagIt, even though I said in my initial post that I was not going in that direction. What can I say? The reason I went with SnagIt–no laughing here–is that it has a lot of different types of arrows included in the program to clearly point to the problem. Even call-out arrows so you can point and say “Here’s the freakin’ problem, buddy”.

What I have used for a long time is TypeRodent version 1.2, but I don’t have Word 2003, just Word 97.
It’s a template with a macro in it. Very convenient.

OK, I’ll bite. Howard, you neglected to explain how the average computer user (me) should analyze the the intelligence of defragmentation algorithms.

Update….. I removed the OEM Norton Anti-Virus package. I replaced it with AVG (free for personal use) Anti-Virus. The problem went away.

Thanks for your reply, Hans. My Norton AntiVirus looks different. I have the OEM (came with the computer) version 11.5.73, dated 2005. The free period just expired and I have not decided whether to update with Norton or go with a competing product. Perhaps my version of Norton AntiVirus does not even offer the script protection that I’m worried about. I have clicked around in this Norton, but cannot find any script reference.

If you click around on the CCleaner website (“Other Builds”) one of the options is the no-Yahoo-toolbar version of CCleaner. It’s there if you look, but they are not calling any attention to it. …J.Till

Do the arrows print normally from the same computer where they cannot be seen? If no, then the question becomes….what happened to the arrows?

Is that font (Wingdings 3 or whatever) in the Fonts file on your computer?

    • in reply to: Evrsoft First Page #977932

1st Page 2000 is listed as free at this site.
But 1st Page 2006 is not listed as free. Only a beta version is available. It seems that 1st Page2006 will be shareware. Am I reading the site correctly?
