A follow-up – I can print to two other printers on my lan with the same computer with no problems after adding them in install printers. It seems to be just the one remote printer giving me problems on this machine. The other remote machines can print to this printer with no problem. Got me stumped. I tried installing the printer software on the machine in question and that didn’t help. Thing is – it worked before the re-install of 98.

Yes I am using the drivers copied from the machine that is connected to the printer – as I have done before. Both machines run 98SE.

Hello hollybcn. My wife has been using CreataCard since it was small. But her new favorite for making cards is Greeting Card Factory . She just upgraded to Delux2 and really likes it.

Curling is cool. I play bagpipes at curling matches from time time. I stay off that slippery ice though. The computer game looks much safer. This thread seems to go just about everywhere doesn’t it?

I do. I still have an ancient laptop with dos 3.2 on it. And no way to upgrade to dos 6 or something better with the 720 floppy drive. My grandson plays the old Zork and other infocom text games on it. Remember those?

My son’s computer is on his 3rd new maxtor drive in 5 months – all replaced under warrenty. It started when we installed a new 20 gig Maxtor. To Maxtor’s credit they replaced that with a 30 and when that one went south replaced that with a 40. They all showed the first symtom of doing a surface scan on boot. It never found anything wrong. But within a couple weeks the drive quit all-together. He told me that last week the 40G drive did the same thing. I’m not sure if it is a Maxtor problem or a computer problem at this point. I tested the power supply voltage and found nothing wrong. Next time it quits I will put in an old WD drive just to check it out. Maxtor has been good about replacing them, but re-installing all the software is getting old. I’ve talked with two other people going through the same thing with thier Maxtor drives. I haved to add here that my Maxtor at work has worked great for almost 4 years.

      Hi Cyberdance,
The alt-printscreen works on my win98se computers. What program are you pasting it to?

    • in reply to: Screen Capture (Again!) #642450

Wow I didn’t know you could do that. I just tried it and it works in my vueprint/vuepro picture program too. I just click paste and there it is. Then I can save to jpg or whatever. Thanks for the tip. I’m going to use this a lot.

I may try that next. Thanks.

Well that didn’t last long. I installed outpost on my XP computer and there was no way I could get file and print sharing on the LAN. I did everything listed in the FAQ but no way would this computer connect to those with outpost on them. Uninstall works great. So I am back to searching for a firewall. I did leave feedback for outpost so we’ll see what happens. It looked good for a while and worked grreat on the 98 machines.

I have DSL and I read a previous post from Mark about the slowing of the connection so I watched for that. I didn’t notice any change at all in the speed of open pages or dowloading so I think they fixed that issue. I now have it installed on 2 machines without a hitch. The XP laptop will be next. I have tried some of the test and probe sites and so far I get all “stealth” results back. Of course I had the same results before the firewall from just the linksys router.

Well thanks to BigAl, Mark, and Jefferson I have been convinced I do in fact need a firewall. And though I’ve used the McAfee virus products for years, I found thier firewall to be a pain. Expecially when my wife hollored at me constantly about it blocking her net access and email every time it upgraded itself. So I did some intense research on the net and decided on Outpost. I don’t know if I’m right about that but you can only read so much before doing something. I just installed it. So far so good. It installed easy and with just a few clicks I taught it to let me on the net and to get my email. I went with the free version until I make up my mind about it. But so far I like it. I haven’t tried it on the XP machine yet. So thanks you guys, and if you have any suggestions, tips, information, ect, I’m all ears.

Thanks Al and Chris. I didn’t think I needed to run it but you never know when something is going to improve things even more. I’ll forget it.

    • in reply to: auto complete popup (6.026) #641900

I already use Guard IE to stop pop ups. It works good on web site popups but the only way it will stop this one is to have it stop all scripts from running. I will try the stopper program. Thank you.
