    • in reply to: Working around Edge’s teething pains #1525367

I have used RoboForm almost since it came out and am very pleased with it. I have a master password which I thought was only in my head! But I just checked and found a file in my documents which has that information. Ooops!
My main question, however, is: what should I do with the information so that it can be used by my executor(s) when that times comes? I do not have a safe deposit box.

      Thanks –
      Joyce C.

I tried reading the directions (ROFL, eh?) and right-clicked the link and it worked like a charm (Save Link… in Firefox which is my browser of choice). So I assume the right-click/Save As will work in IE8 too — give it a try.

    • in reply to: Convert EST to PST in formula (Excel – Office XP) #970416

Legare — Many thanks. I’d tried the help menu and it didn’t seem to be there. I would never have thought of the “TIME(3,0,0)” part of the formula!

    • Thanks to everyone for the help you gave me. Unfortunately, nothing worked until I completely removed and re-installed MS Office. But that was relatively painless, just a tad time-consuming. Even the remove application was so good on keeping internal files, that the first time I opened Excel, I got the same problematical file again — aaaarrrgh! But when I closed it, it behaved, and the new file opened nice and blank; opening a recent document was just the way it should be, with all the data entry I did yesterday. While this was a bit of a pain, I wasn’t totally upset, since I had done a complete HD backup only two days ago!

      Thanks again.

    • Tony — thanks for the suggestions. I will try both.

    • Tony also suggested the “Systematic Approach…” so I will definitely try that.
As to the multiple attachment question, I never thought of a zip file, which would have solved my problem, since I’d already reduced the file size of the .jpg files so that the would have fit in a folder that would be smaller than 100 KB.

      Thanks for the help.

OK — that’s a new way of doing it, but it appears that there is a finite number of View rules that you can set up here in automatic formatting. There are five categories that cannot be deleted (to give you more space) and if I have all the others that I’ve set up (e.g. mail from “xxx”, color=red) I still run into the limit on rules set up here and the “Add” button is greyed out. I’ll think about setting up folder rules and see if that will help me. Thanks for the suggestion which led me to a new part of Outlook!.

Rudi and all — Many thanks for all the suggestions. I LOVE this lounge — people are really helpful.

Hans — many thanks for the reference to the MSKB — it did indeed help. I may need to insert a blank row so that it doesn’t look like I have a header row, and then maybe it will work. I’ll check it out.

Tony — Many thanks for the rapid reply — I’ve already followed the information and it worked like a charm! clapping

    • in reply to: Can’t backup (Outlook XP -SP2) #951579

Thanks to all for the suggestions. Yes, MS Active Synch is my synch. program, and my Dell Axim 30x is the 624MB version. I didn’t have Active Synch or extra “Outlooks” in the Task Manager so I couldn’t delete them. But after trying all that, I got a _different_ error message, indicating that all that was wrong was my external HD wasn’t attached. OK, so I turned that on, and… backup was done like a charm. Now that I do have a backup, I’ll run the detect and repair from Tools in Outlook just in case.

Thanks for the directions; unfortunately, there was only the _one_ Outlook.exe which was for my currently open Outlook. When I closed Outlook, the process disappeared from the Task Manager (good thing!). I’m running SpySweeper and Norton Internet Security — would either of these cause a problem? And why now, when the Outlook backup worked before, with those running in the background?

    • Hans — Many thanks! Once again the “right click” function strikes. If I _ever_ become fully bi-lingual it will be a miracle. I just never think about right-click, since the Mac (my previous platform) doesn’t have that.
      Thanks again.

Dave — Thanks for your reply. Part of the problem was that I was trying to make programs written for WinCE2000 work on my new Axim! Anyway, I finally got all the _necessary_ programs to work. When I get back from vacation, I’ll spend some more time learniing more about my new toy!

Keith — Thanks, I have finally got ActiveSync working. Turns out that it was Norton’s Firewall that was the problem — I spent some time on the phone with Bangalore and the tech walked me through accepting ActiveSync as recognized in Norton. Since then, all (well, almost all — some freeware doesn’t work with the version of Windows CE that I have smile ) and I’ve installed the latest version of ActiveSync.
There’s one item that won’t synchronize, but I don’t know what it is, and turning everything off and then on again doesn’t tell me what it is. But the stuff on my Axim works, and if I save data to my SD card, I can move it to my laptop using my card reader, [shades of sneaker-net scratch so I’m OK.
I’m glad that all is working well, since I’m leaving on vacation tomorrow .
      Thanks again.
