AskWoody LoungerRight,
I seem to have stopped the bl**dy thing crashing by turning off ALL autocomplete options and deleting every auocomplete entry I find as they pop up (like that arcade game where you had to hit the moles with the hammer…)Question. Should I turn the autocomplete back on, cause it’s a pain not having it (I’m told by the less-techie members of the family
)?

I’ve clean9x’ed. Didn’t help
I’ve gone further and used a utility I found on the clean9x site to totally zap the TIF folder. Didn’t helpI’ll look at the temporary internet files size and report back. But any help still gratefully accepted.

AskWoody LoungerFebruary 26, 2001 at 3:27 am in reply to: Has anyone ever really taken a look at “index.dat” #1779266Definitely interesting. Is this where all those pesky autocomplete entries are found? I have a problem where the first time in an IE session I type into a (say) search box, IE complains about an invalid page fault and shuts down. It has been suggested that this is due to corrupt autocomplete entries. If I zap the index.dat(s) from DOS, will this help me? If not any suggestions… anyone!

AskWoody LoungerIt’s OK, In case anyone’s still interested… I’ve fixed it myself
It was an encoding thing. A right-click on the desktop pops up a menu with (among other things) Encoding. Deselecting autoselect fixed my problem. But why?

AskWoody LoungerIf you’re using Office 97, have you tried upgrading to Draw98 (available from Microsoft as a free upgrade). If you don’t have Ppt, then this will give some extra functionality to Word97

AskWoody LoungerActually, I would be interested in an answer to this, as I have a friend with an identical problem. Come on, anyone!

AskWoody LoungerAre these special folder views not held in .htm files in the folder itself (I’m at a win95 PC so I can’t check..) And do you not need view as web pages set up to display them.

AskWoody LoungerNice thought, but doesn’t work. Thanks for trying. Did I mention that I’m using Windows 95?
