No kudos to the WS folks from me on this. WS must have had a WEAK Administrator password.

Every Administrator account deserves a strong password. Example: StrongPassword!Impossible2Crack*123. Brute Force hacker attempts would take literally MILLIONS of years to crack that password. Do the math.

Are the readers of WS really such naive folks and suckers for such obvious 419 scam. Of course not, I’m sure 99.9% of your readers are much smarter then that. Therefore this issue of WS is effectively totally worthless to 99% of your readers. You guys can do better selecting topics of real interest then 419s.

Firefox will be fine. The MONEY from Google to Mozilla is all about the licensing dollars for the default search engine in Firefox. Micro$oft will be happy to step in and have Bing be the new default search engine in FF. MS is now competing against both Google’s Search and Chrome, so sending some money to Mozilla is a no-brainer for MS.

I’ve been using TightVNC for years. http://www.TightVNC.com Works perfectly fine. Supports file transfers too. Also works from an iPad on the road remotely using PowerCloud VNC or similiar. Cost is free, or give’em the 10$ requested donation which I’ve done a few times already.

    • in reply to: Printer drivers for Windows Server 2008 R2 #1277411

Printer drivers for Windows Server 2008 R2 in a Terminal Server environment? Hopefully this is easier then it is/was in Windows 2003 server TS. Managing our remote client’s printers thru our 2003 TS server is a time-consuming and too often failing effort. Anyone have good news about 2008 TS handling printers any better?

    • in reply to: Outlook 2010: deleting attachment #1266943

Question: After “Removing Attachment”, is the SPACE really recovered?

Look at the SIZE column for the message in Outlook before and after you remove the Attachment, it doesn’t change, what gives? This has irk’ed me for a long time. The only way I know of to knock down the SIZE column is to Forward myself the message which is a extra step and pain in the arse.

    • in reply to: How to password-protect an external hard drive #1244716

Buy one of the drives with BUILT-IN security, portable hard drive provides government-grade protection against unauthorized access. The add-on later software solutions discissed above, I don’t really know, but I’m pretty sure they are less secure and easier to crack.

Here’s one of our favorites: Maxtor BlackArmor 320GB 2.5″ External USB Hard Drive. http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=230526578274

      Google: Maxtor BlackArmor

On my PC I login as Administrator every time.

Bottom line is common sense usage of the PC.
      – Don’t open emailed attachments from senders you’re not expecting.
      – Don’t click on Links that are offer free stuff or clearly bogus offers.
      – Keep Microsoft Updates fairly up to date.

And install ONE decent Anti-Virus program or Security suite.
And install a spyware scanning program as Spybot for on demand manual scans.
