    • in reply to: Default folder in ‘open’ dialog box (2003) #1029337

      Hi there.

I am not exiting from Word. Often, I am simply using Word, then the computer goes to sleep, and I resume in Word.

I have the dialog box to go to a folder called “Semester 3” by default. However, it has not been going there for a few days now and only goes to the last folder I opened. Before this, like last week, it would always go to Semester 3 whenever it would resume from sleep.

      Thanks,

      JMT

    • in reply to: Table of Contents with Table of Entry Fields (2003) #1024685

Hi Hans, I tried the suggestions and it worked. I just wish there was a quicker way of doing it, rather than changing each field individually. I tried going into the TOC dialog box, and where I could modify TOC level 2 under “modify,” in order to be able to possibly change it from there. I clicked on “bold” in there, thinking that maybe if I had “bold” clicked, then it would unbold the formatting (which was already bold), you know, how in English, a double negative makes a positive. But it didn’t work. Whether or not I had “bold” checked, the TOC level 2 showed up as bold. I guess the only thing left to do is to manually change each field.

Word is random in this sense. I have some underlined entries but they don’t show up as underlined in the TOC; however, when entries are bolded, they do show up as bolded in the TOC. Wierd.

Do you know why the TOC entry (level 1) “Introduction” is showing up in the Garamond font, and the TOC entry, also of level 1, “SUBJECT MATTER JURISDICTION,” is showing up in Arial?

They are both level one and in both of them, the TOC field is in Arial. But the TOC field for level 1 is set to Garamond. Why does only one of them show up in Garamond?

Also, if I want to modify Normal, do I have to first close all my documents before opening it?

If I want to create a new template, do I need to first close all my documents?

      Thanks,

      JMT

      Hi Dave,

The issue is that I only want a signature for my university account. For my other accounts, I don’t want a signature.

I have the signature set for my university account, but nothing set for gmail. Can I still get the signature to show up for the university account?

      Thanks,

Thanks, jscher, for your message, but please understand, I am pretty amateur and don’t know much about html, so your original response was like Greek to me. That’s why I like all the pretty buttons in Dreamweaver, it makes it all simple. So if you can dumb down the html to my level, I would greatly appreciate it! I don’t even know what javascript means.

I am attaching a zoomed-in version of the dialog box. But as you can see, all the options are greyed out. They don’t let me choose anything, UNLESS I put a link to the word Volunteers, which I don’t want to do. I want Volunteers to stay put!

I have an idea that might be able to put a definitive end to this question. If I send you the html language, can you put the code to make the pop-up?

      Here is the html:

      :: VOLUNTEER OPPORTUNITIES ::

I want it so that when “Volunteers” is clicked, this page will pop up, “http://editions.biliki.net/index_en.php.” But I want the new page to only take up half the screen (6″ wide), and the original page to not budge. Just to stay put.

I don’t know if you could help me with this. But if there is any other information I can send, just let me know,

      John

      Hi Jerry,

I tried to follow these steps but had 2 problems. First, I didn’t see the tag anywhere on my screen. Can you take a picture of your screen with the tag selected so I can see where that is?

Second, under the Behaviors panel, I don’t have any “Advanced Open Window 3” option. The only option that looks remotely similar to that is “Open Browser Window,” which is greyed out.

I am attaching a picture of what my screen looks like when I am trying to do this. The word “Volunteers” on the screen is selected, since that is the word I am trying to link to a pop-up window. But as you can see, when I press “+” on the Behaviors Panel, I can’t do anyting with this to make it link to a pop-up. I know the image is blurry, but this is because I had to shrink it in Photoshop because WOPR only allowed files up to 100k in size, but I think you can get the basic idea.

      Any ideas?

    • in reply to: ‘My Recent Documents’ (Word 2003) #1024082

Thanks, Hans, I knew about that trick to make Word show up to 9 documents in the “Getting Started” task pane.

I just find 2 problems with that. First, it disappears when I open up the first document. Second, I can’t select multiple documents at once. For example, when I go to “My recent documents” in “Open” dialogue box, I can select a document, then press “control,” and select others. This is why I like this dialogue box so much and regret that I don’t always get the documents I need.

I tried the Word “Work” menu, but it has the same problem as the Getting Started task pane; I have to slowly select and open each document individually.

      Thanks!

Well that’s an interesting funciton that I never heard of before. So you mean that I would have to press alt + F9 and manually insert the changes everytime? Is that how it works?

I never noticed how you can make field codes show up with alt + F9. You mean they have been there the whole time without my knowledge?

I finally did fix up my table of contents.

I guess all this time, since I never put the table identifier after the “f”, Word was just assuming that I wanted the entries identified by “C,” since, after all, Word was always just sticking in those entries every time, including in the first example I sent you, where every table fo contents went straight to “C”?

Thank you! You have made my document coherent!

      Hi Hans,

You said that my field codes should look like { TOC f A h z }.

      First off, I am not seeing those field codes in either your document or my document. In both our documents, the field codes look like { TOC “Treatise One” f A 1 “1” }

In fact, I see nothing in either your document or my document that looks like, { TOC f A h z }. Where are you seeing that field code? How did you get that to show up on your screen shot? In Word, I tried pressing the Show/Hide Formatting button to reveal that field code, but I didn’t see it anything, even in your document.

      Thanks!

      Hi Hans,

Thanks for your suggestions. The problem is that, even when I go ahead and manually set the table identifiers to tables of contents to A, or B, or other letters, when I go ahead and insert the actual table of contents, the contents of table of contents C show up for ever table!

Tables A and B never show up, and if I don’t have anything identified by “C,” I get the following error message: “Error! No table of contents entries found.”

I am attaching an example. In this example, even though I manually put entries into three different tables of contents identifiers (A, B, C), only C shows up, every time. All three tables of contents are identical!

      What am I doing wrong?

      Thanks!

      John
