Thanks, Hans. This helped a lot. I have realized, however, that recently, replies to my posts have not been emailed to me, even though I never changed my settings that currently allow for replies to be sent via email. Do you know if there is something wrong with the system?

Hi W.D. Heading 2 is for the book parts (each of which is composed of several chapters). I have no idea what Heading 1 is used for as I did not see it.

      Sincerely, JMT

      Hello Hans,

How do I zip it? Through Word or a third-party program?

      Sincerely,

      JMT

I just tried sending my template, but apparently, Woody’s louge does not allow .DOT documents. Should I email it to someone?

      Dear Kim,

Should I reset my listtemplates in Normal.dot or in Outline_updated_2_text.dot?

Also, in the document you created, when I press “tab” at the level one to shift it to level two, and then I press “shift + tab” to move it back, a left tab mark appears at the top ruler at .25″ and my original .5″ hanging indent goes away. I have to press cntl + Z to fix it. Why is Word messing with my document?

This only happens at level 1.

Well, I hate to admit it, but I think you are right, jscher, since it seems to work with smaller documents. But that’s not so bad, since the excerpt I need is only 1/3 of the document I was using before.

      Thanks,

      JMT

It seems that the reset option worked!

I tried it both ways. Same result each time.

But when I did the same thing with smaller test documents, it worked fine when I started with the new version, merged the old into it, and selected “merge into new document.” Maybe it’s becasue the documents I am working with are too large?

In the large one, it is asking if I want to keep the formattng of the old or new document. Either way, the result is not what I want. With the small test docs, no such question even pops up.

It appears that all of them have the same result . . .

It looks like the problem continues to occur!

Oops . . . it should be there now.

      Hello,

I am working on an outline based on styles, where level I is Heading 1, level II is Heading 2, etc. (see attached).

Every now and then, when I create a new level I, it renames that level’s number to “I,” even if it should be IV, V, VI, etc. I then have to put my cursor to the beginning of that level and (i) press tab (which causes everything in the outline to become indented); and (ii) press cntrl + Z twice (the first time, nothing happens; the second time, the indents go away and the new level gets the appropriate number continuing from the previous level).

This does not happen all of the time, and in fact, the attached document works just fine for those who want to replicate it. I can’t figure out when this happens and when it doesn’t, but I know for sure that this happens to me about 5 times a day. Sometimes, it will happen if I put my cursor at the end of a level 1 portion of the outline, and press spacebar. The numbering of that level will change back to “I” and then I have to put my cursor at the beginning of the line, press tab and cntrl Z twice to get the correct number of that level to reappear.

Does anybody know what is going on??

      Sincerely,

      JMT

Thanks Macropod, that’s basically what I am looking for. But why is it that even when I choose the same fill color for both the autoshape and the 2nd row, the autoshape comes out to be slightly darker?

Also, if I mess up and later decide that I want to change all of the shading to lighter grey or no grey, is there a shortcut, or do I have to go through all 85 tables and autoshapes and do it separately?

      Dear Hans,

That’s EXACTLY the look I am going for. However, in the table of contents, the entry in Column 1 shows up as one entry and that in column 2 shows up as another, even though they should show up as one line (i.e., “A. Rule 611. Mode and Order of Interrogation and Presentation”). See attached.

Is there a way to get them on one line in the TOC??

      Thank you,

      JMT

That alt function really worked! It doesn’t snap anywhere except for where I tell it! Thanks!
