One theory is that the message was composed in Rich Text format with the PDF files embedded inline in the message. At some point, the message was converted to HTML format, and rather than simply extract the PDF files, the parser broke the message into 8 attachments, around the boundaries of the PDFs. If the sender open the original message from Sent Items, chooses Action>Resend (or OL 2007 equivalent) and changes the format to HTML, I would expect that the message would arrive with only the actual attachments as attachments. (Reminder: it’s just a guess.)

My son is using Apple Mail and sending the messages with attachment via a MS Exchange Server.

Sorry, MS Expressions Web. I need to get use to the new diggs.

I ran the In Box Repair Tool (scanpst) on the archive file. Errors were corrected. I then tried to open the archive.pst file with Outlook (File-Open-Outlook Data File), pointed to the archive file and was returned to Outlook with no sign of the archive file.

      Argus,
What are RPs? What are the other options you mention?

I tried to restore to Nov. 4, Dec. 1, and Jan. 1, each time I received a notice “Unable to Restore, no changes have been made.”

Desktop: Auto Arrange is checked but it does not hold after a reboot

Quick Launch Bar: I checked the registry and found the “Userinit” key is set correctly as “userinit.exe,” The Quick Launch bar disappears after a reboot. I am able to create the Quick Launch bar. It just will not hold after a reboot.

About 18 months ago I converted my old non-Unicode pst file to a Unicode pst file following the instruction in this MS Article. Thats when all the PST files showed up in the All Mail Folders panel. I only have one outlook.pst and one archive.pst folder. I have copied this pst folder to another computer and opened it with Outlook and only one pst folder appears in the All Mail Folders panel on the other second computer. Scanpst reports no errors in either file.

The Tech-pro article concerns the system tray icon. The icons I am concerned with are those on the Quick Launch bar on the left side of the task bar. I can restore them with a right click on the task bar – tool bars, and checking Quick Launch, but the icons disappear after a restart and have to be reset. Same for the order of icons on the Desk Top.

It has been happening for a while. It is my wife’s computer so I do not know when this started. I don’t think a system restore will help.

I am sure I am opening the correct archive folder.
Where do you set Mail Folders View. I do not see any archive folder in All Mail folders.

If I check “MY outgoing server (SMPT) requires authentication”, should I not also check, “Log on to incoming mail server before sending mail”?
I notice you did not have this radio button checked.

    • in reply to: Relay not permited (Outlook 2003 SP3) #1139985

That’s a good point, but I have not had this problem in the past, which is way I think Verio requires a connect to the POP server before sending to the STMP server. I am pretty sure doing this will resolve my problem

    • in reply to: Relay not permited (Outlook 2003 SP3) #1139968

I am using a shared hosting service with Verio and POP email accounts on this server. Verio tech support tells me that I should not use authentication for the outgoing (SMTP) server. After thinking about this, I may have not tried to first down load mail from the server before trying to send mail. Logging on to the server by clicking Send/Receive with no outgoing mail should validate me as a legitimate user, after which for some period of time, I should be able to send mail. I seem to recall this happening some time ago. I will try and validate this theory on my next trip.
