Clipcashe Pro which attaches to your right click options. Seems to copy anything. Been using it over 50 years. Jim

    • in reply to: Java update comes sooner than expected #1373390

H & R Block uses Java and I had problems filing my return because of it. This morning I went to java.com, selected “Do I have java?” and they check you out. My answer was that they are not sure. I then uninstalled the program Java, went back to java website and downloaded the correct updated Java. There is a 32 and 64 bit versions and they figure out what you need. I use both 32 and 64 bit IE 9.0 in Win 7 and my 32 bit browser never shows java add-ons. I am waiting a program called “Java Manager Pro” and I hope it isn’t free!

    • in reply to: Is CrashPlan+ easy enough to use for novices? #1370753

I have been using CrashPlan for 2 months and love it! It costs $50 a year and the only thing you have to do is download it and press GO. It runs in the background and figures it all out. You don’t have to do anything ever. At my Crash, I had 3 b/u programs installed that were all free when I got them, but obsolete and not free when I had to use them. I am still using my 2tb external drive for a Windows image b/u which is free. I also have all my Pics in Google Piscaso and are uploaded to the cloud and can be downloaded as a backup with a 5 GB limit. Also use Google Play Music to upload my music to the cloud. The limit here is 20,000 songs and I-tunes are included. All Google services are free to the stated limit and one time complete downloads are allowed. I also have full access of all from my phone and tablet. You won’t find veterans talking about cloud services because they are brand new. They are not Windows also, they are Android and Apple. I am a veteran of Windows Secrets since it’s begining. It is my holy grail for any PC problem including best Backup program. Last year my PC could not talk or share anything with my phone. This year they can do both wirelessly, though modem or bluetooth and including files. I would like a place at Windows Secrets for CloudStuff. Again, I love my Crashplan because it leaves me alot more time to figure out how to root my phone. Thanks to everyone on this site who states an opinion. That’s how I found my new cloud backup.

My problem is solved. I downloaded Thunderbird. I like to keep it simple and clean. I have 5 addresses feeding 1 inbox which is easy with very clean config menus. Builtin RSS feeds keeping me informed. Balloon message alerts. No ads anywhere. No office anything needed. I am very impressed and it’s free. Thanks again for your excellent comments on my dilemma. Jim

Thanks for the link and Account information John. It works slick. My problem is they don’t recognize any of my email addresses. I have had many hotmail addresses with them trying different things on Skydrive. I can’t remember the correct one used during that time. Anyway, they are not very helpful to people driving older models. Today was my first look at Thunderbird. It is very nice if I can get it to do a global inbox. With global inboxes, my problem is fixed and I will also never worry about the download . Thanks again for getting me to a right place. Jim

      Hi again, Jerry and All,

Notepad worked beautifully. The corrupted file is werui.dll.mui located at Windows/system 32/en-us. Now what to do? I have 2 Asus Win 7 64 bit notebooks and there is a good file in the other. Can I copy and paste using a flash drive? Google didn’t have much helpful info about this DLL. Any thoughts and thanks again Jerry for making it easy! Jim

      Jerry,
I missed your message about notepad. I will try it next. Thanks. Jim

      Hi Jerry,

I first ran SFC/SCANNOW from the cmnd mode and it states I have corrupt files it cannot fix. On the same screen at the new cmnd prompt I enter:

      findstr /c:”[SR]” %windir%logscbscbs.log >sfcdetails.txt

when I hit enter it gives me a new cmnd prompt. Waited 1 hr and nothing is done on the DOS screen. I can look at the log from notepad but it so immense that you just can’t find errors. I am doing another SFC/SCANNOW right now. Thanks again for your interest. Jim

      Hi again,

Every time I enter findstr /c:”[SR]” %windir%logscbscbs.log >sfcdetails.tx it doesn’t work. Can you copy and paste in DOS? I do have files in the cbs.log. I have read the log in Notepad but that is a needle in a haystack! Any thoughts? Jim

      Hi again,

sfc/scannow tells me that I still have a corrupt file that it can’t fix. I tried the findstr thing but it doesn’t do anything. CHKDSK is running right now and doing a bunch of things. Jim

      Hi Jerry and all,

I am going to have to quit my day job so that I can focus on my baby with BSOD disease. It’s not easy for a plumber to even find the ON button, never mind about the crack. The file reading, Jerry, I’ll discuss when I’m rested. A lot of progress has been made because I finally got my internet connection fixed by uninstalling bluetooth at the device manager and rebooting 3 times. My internet icon had a red X in a different icon than the bars. I fixed that because I searched here for RED X and someone did recently have a case. Each time I ran SFC/SCANNOW, it was fixing things and when the internet finally worked Win Updates took a long time doing it’s thing and there was an icon that said it was MS file and it did something. Maybe Win 7 ordered the file it needed to fix itself? The next day, when I booted, it requested to do a CHKDSK and I allowed and it ran for over an hour, orphan files and all. Not done yet. Need to run sfc/scannow to check for corrupt files and I NEED to run Casper. Thanks to everyone on this VERY GREAT WEBSITE. Jim

      Hello again,

I still have BSOD (blue screen of death). I ran sfc/scnnow and it did identify a corupted file that it can’t fix. I do not know what file it was because the info ran off the screen. Is there a way to the Comand prompt screen larger before I do scannow. I have a repair disc in the DVD drive and when it tries to fix the problem it gives me an option to load drivers. Is there a disc of drivers I can use at this point? The last time I ran sfc/scannow it said it couldn’t finish. Looking for ideas. Thanks for your help. Jim

So far, I have a minidump setup but nothing on Bluescreen yet. I ran sfc/scannow and it identified a corrupted file but the info is running off the side of the screen. I have been on MS sites all night learning how to read log files. There must be a printLog but too tired for that now. A big thanks again for the links and great guidance. I will keep you advised. Jim
