I don’t suppose you’ve got an entry in Autocorrect which is replacing pretty with retty? Just a thought

    • in reply to: Office 2010 SP2 update problems #1405580

Not taking it wrongly – I asked the same questions of both myself and the others involved in the update routines.

The mix of Office 2003 & 2010 components came because of some people thinking that new is best – and has been a tide I’ve been trying to fight against for a long time. We have a number of systems which rely on links with old versions of Access & Excel, hence my wish to stick with 2003 at present. Finding that someone had turned on the auto-update process across the site was not a happy day for me!

Totally agree with the “if it’s not broken….” – but working in a team doesn’t always give the outcome we would wish. At home I update my machine long after update releases; it’s not so easy when others are pushing for something else.

Generally using Windows XP, though moving across to Windows 7 over the coming months.

As Rui said further back in the thread, it doesn’t make any sense for Microsoft to update modules which aren’t even installed, which points to a lack of testing, but I guess Microsoft would be more than happy to move people from the older versions of Office. When we all get pushed into Office 365, they have a continuous revenue stream from a product that isn’t necessarily giving us anything more than we already need for our general use.

In this case too many tech persons have well and truely spoilt the broth!

      Thanks Rui
I’ll keep an eye on the list of SP2 related issues.
Trying to manage an environment where there are a mix of Office versions has always been a bit of an issue, but nothing has wrecked the setup more than this simple update. It’s hard to see, from the additional functionality/correcttions, how it warrants a whole service pack number to itself!

I’d still be interested in anyone’s comments if they had similar issues to ours

      Regards

    • in reply to: Examples using Access database #1263641

Thanks both for your help, encouragement – and warnings. I guess there is never an ideal – Access 2003 is great for some things, VB will, I’m sure be good in other ways. Progress is never in a straight line (certainly not forwards). It will take a while to switch, and I’ve no doubt I’ll stay with Access 2003 for much of what I do, but it would be useful to use VB for some, especially when I need to produce a compiled version of an application

    • in reply to: Insert hyperlinks in a memo field #1179467

A memo field is plain text. Although you could enter multiple URLs in a memo field, they won’t act as hyperlinks.
A hyperlink field can contain only a single hyperlink.
So you’ll have to use multiple hyperlink fields.

Thanks Hans – I presumed that may be the case.
I understand from a brief view of Access 2007 that it has rich text in the memo fields, so I would presume it may be possible with that – not that I’m going to switch just to resolve this issue!

I can always rely on the “great minds” on here.

I presumed that would be the only course of action – I know that doesn’t get me in the “great minds” category, but I’ll keep working at it!

    • in reply to: Turn on Properties Window #1164237

Does the database you’re opening have a startup form?
Yes, it does have a startup form – this was where I’d expect to run the code

Which version of Access are you using, by the way?
      2003

In the after update event of the alloy field, enter the command docmd.requery “Forms!Mainform!SubForm!Total – or whatever the reference is to the running total you are trying to update

Try converting baseloop in the function to a string before concatenating.
Also, baseloop doesn’t seem to be incremented – always 1 ?

Couldn’t you just run a requery after the update of the alloy field?

    • in reply to: Records Not Linked (2003 SP3) #1147419

I presume you are using a form to enter the name of the unwanted actor, so you use =”Movies That Don’t Have ” & [Forms]![FormName]![NotActor] – NotActor is the name of the unbound field in the form.
The data extract would look for [Actor] [Forms]![FormName]![NotActor]

    • in reply to: Problem combo box (2003) #1145538

Have you recently updated to SP3 of Office 2003? I had the same problem with combos with one of my databases. There is a fix on the Microsoft website – article 945280 in the Microsoft Knowledge base. This should resolve the problem.

I’ve never used the On Format / On Print in the sections before – works just as I need it.

    • in reply to: Data from host address/port number (2003) #1128254

I downloaded and used the TConnector from tec-it.com The software works really well, though the sample Access code was a bit of a pain as it used an earlier version of some of the code which no longer worked properly. With a bit of trial and error it is now picking up data from a IP address (also did this directly from a file) and processing it.
      Thanks for the pointer
