To the person who can’t get Acronis to restore or find the portable drive even though it will back up to it. I had the same problem until I discovered you have to make the rescue disk or USB on the same computer you are trying to restore too. Hope this helps.

Thanks everyone for your help. Have been away with work, so that’s why I have not replied. I have ESET Smart Security and Malwarebytes Premium, so I am fairly sure there is no infection. I have tried to run it with ESET turned off, but no difference. It worked in safe mode so I suppose I will have to do it that way.

Thank you both for your help. It does work when you boot into safe mode, I had tried to restore with the antivirus turned off but that didn’t work. It used to work fine, don’t know what has gone wrong.
      Cheers John.

32716-Ashampoo_Snap_2013.01.01_09h51m03s_002_I think I got it, don’t know if this helps . hopefully someone knows about system volume information, and can tell me why the new drive would delete it.
      Cheers John.

I have just run TreeSize and will try and attach a screen shot. It seems to be in the System Volume Information, even though C drive is a direct image of G drive, the folders are miles apart in size. Why would the new drive delete the information. I can’t get a picture to attach sorry.
      Cheers John.

Thank you BATcher, will have a go at that. It just seems odd that I gained 90GB of space and everything still seems to be in place. I know you lose space, but gain space!
      Cheers John.

Thank’s for the reply chowur. I haven’t lost space, I have gained 90GB. I meant to say 722GB free space to 812GB. My mistake sorry, don’t know why I’m gaining space.
      Cheers John.

    • in reply to: SP1 Backup Files #1331459

Thank you for the reply Zig, I have done that but it hangs at the very last stag of the install after you put your key in. I think it is because I have an OEM install, although it is not locked I think when it tries to activate it knows the difference and hangs. My OEM disc does not have SP1, hence if I can find the backup files on my laptop I might be able to transfer them.
      Cheers John.

Now I get it!. I was not aware I could skip that part. Do I still put the Reg key in or do I skip that part too.

Thank you for your quick reply bbearren. I don’t know what an upgrade install without network is.

    • in reply to: Some updates fail #1325537

Thanks for the quick replies. I have tried sfc /scannow, see screenshot, it says verification phase 0% complete so not sure if it has worked. Ted, yes I did the same and hid the updates, but as they are critical ones I was not sure if they should be installed or that I could ignore them. But i’m with you on making images with Acronis.

Sorry it took so long to reply, but the problem has only just been fixed! You were right Ted it was a problem at the other end. Once again thanks for all the help it has been invaluable to me over the last year or so.
      Cheers John.

    • in reply to: WLM times out #1300738

I think you might be right Ted. I have changed the timeout to max, but it doesn’t make any difference. Thank you both for the replies.
      Cheers John.

    • in reply to: TI 2011 with Plus Pack #1282920

Thanks for the reply Ted. I’m not sure if it was an OEM version of windows, I did once own the PC I got the image from, had it as a backup but PC is long since died. Thought I would try my hand at a restore to a different PC, looks like that’s not going to happen. Once again thank’s for the help Ted.
      Cheers John.

Thank you Paul T. I googled the IDs, found the drivers and all is well. Now 4 HDD show up in my computer instead of 2.
