    • in reply to: Distribution List OL 2010 #1341035

Well, it almost worked. Everythying worked fine until I tried to use the list. All names were rejected by the System Administrator. I noticed that each address was enclosed in single quotation marks. I tried to edit the group in the Address book but was unable to. How can I modify the list, short of exporting it to Word and reimporting?

Thanks jwitalka and ruirib for your posts. No thanks to MS for changing Distribution List to Contact Group for no apparent reason! Anyway, it worked.

    • in reply to: Why very long e-mail addresses? #1340444

Thanks Bruce. I did check and it is https and verizon.com. I knew it was a web link but my head was somewhere else when I typed the title.
I am still curious why such a long link is necessary. It sure looks like a security measure to me.

    • in reply to: 2013 Holidays missing in OL 2010 #1333662

Thanks Joe. It took a couple of tries, but it finall worked, sort of. I edited out the holidays for 2009-2012, but Vista wouldn’t let me save it to the Office14/1033 folder. It did let me save it in Documents, from where I copied it to 1033 successfully (ain’t Windows grand!). When I tried Outlook/Options/Add Holidays I got an error message that said Outlook.hol was not formatted correctly. Rechecked the file and found that there was now a blank line after [United States] 384. I deleted that line and repeated Add Holidays again. This time it did add holidays, but still had an error message that all of my holidays may not be added. I checked 2013 and 2014 and those years are OK, so I’m OK too.
Final question: Is the item count of 384 in the header used by the program? Since I deleted abot 30 items that count is incorrect. Could that have caused the second error?

Right you are. I checked the IP address at the printer and found that it was 192.168.1.73. How It got to be .73 is a mystery. A printer network configuration page from June showed it was .66! Anyway, I loaded the the HP software, selected Add Printer and selected TCP/IP. The software found the printer (at .73) and completed. I reconnected the iPad and it’s IP came in at .67, as before. All is well.
      Thanks,

Same. You have two unread items in you calendar, possibly calendar items added from a web page. You can right click the calendar icon and mark them all as read if you want…

OK, how do I identify Unread calendar items? In Mail they are bold in the Inbox. Also, right clicking on the Calendar icon does not show an option for Mark All as Read. I can only see that option in Mail.

    • in reply to: Appointment times – OL 2010 #1297619

Hi Joe. Found this solution. Clicked on View/View Settings/Other Settings. There is a check box for Show End Time. Cleared the box, clicked OK and, Voila! the end times are gone. As I suspected, there is an option for what I wanted, but it’s buried three layers deep. Thanks for steering me to the correct menu.

Thanks for the info. I thought my laptop would be underpowered for Win7. I don’t need aero or any other fancy graphics, so I’ll give it a shot. I’ll run the MS Win 7 compatibility test to see what else may be a problem. One question. Will the Win 7 upgrade allow a reformat of my hard drive or will it only upgrade XP without reformatting?

    • in reply to: Outlook 2010 signature #1297307

Once you click “Reply”, click on the “Format Text” tab then click “HTML” in the Format section.

      Joe

Thanks, Joe. One more step is required. Click Insert Signature, select Howard. A script Howard then replaces the plain text Howard.

OK. How do I force my reply to HTML?

    • in reply to: Upgrading OL 2003 to OL 2010 #1291918

Thanks for both posts. Since there is a file conversion from 2003 to 2010, and Microsoft warns that it make take quite a while, I would expect that cleaning up extraneous junk in 2003 first would lead to faster conversion. Or does it not make much difference?

    • in reply to: Windows Easy Transfer #1286992

Found the solution on Microsoft Answers forum. I needed to use the Advanced button on the old computer in order to Deselect the old D-drive. That drive had a lot of archived files which WET was trying to copy to the much smaller Restore D-Drive on my new Win 7 PC. After that correction WET transferred everything in about 90 minutes. Whoopee.
I hope this helps others trying to use WET.

      Ted,
Thanks for the link to the tutorial. It’s time I got familiar with the ribbon! However, my wife ‘s first reaction will probably be “Why did that have to change the menus?”

    • in reply to: Moving iTunes to Win7 #1283199

You should be able to backup your library to an external drive using iTunes on the XP PC. Then after you install iTunes on the new PC use the iTunes restore.

Easy Transfer can be very useful. Just be sure to double check that all your data and settings get transferred. See Windows Easy Transfer for more information and links.

      Joe

Should I use Easy Transfer first, then install my programs, or vice versa?

You are correct. I repeated the copy at a slower speed and it worked fine. Thanks for your help.
