      Hi Andrew
But why would you want to do that when you can use firefox?

    • in reply to: Create AutoRun with a Menu Screen to pick #990288

I use Autoitfor this. The latest version has a GUI creator and you can make some very nice menus with clickable icons and labels to open files. The command for running files also takes command-line switches. It’s very versatile, fairly easy to get to know and has been mentioned here before (by Tony, I think).

      It’s back to normal now.

Thanks for both of your responses. It seems, Argus, that it may be a little temperamental when first updated.

If you save the whole of your “Profiles” folder, you can put it back where it was and maintain all of your previous setting – as long as they are compatible with the new version of course.

I zip my folder every night into a backup folder and burn it to CD periodically. I’ve had no trouble on the couple of occasions when I’ve had to recover it.

Another good zip utility is ZipGenius. I believe it encrypts using AES (among others) and it is also free. I’ve used it and it’s good but the scripting became a little complicated for my needs.

I’d go with Joe on TUGZIP. It’s a great utility and you can do a certain amount of scripting for automation. Try it, it’s totally free.

I overcame this problem by attaching the macro to the on_open event. Add a line to the macro .. if time < 8.00am (or whatever) run macro – this stops it running if you open the db later.
You then schedule the db file to open just before the set time.
There may be a better way but this was all I could think of – and it worked.

(Edited by herworth on 29-Oct-05 19:03. edited to apologise about the poor spelling – should have checked it)

For some of the simple extension you can open the xpi file and change the level so that firefox recognises the extension but it won’t work with all the extesions.
I’ve tweaked 3 or 4 so I can keep them and so far it has had no ill affects. If it’s not going to work you can see straight away and then uninstall the extension.

2nd question first – your text is still there I think but it’s all on page 1. Drag the bottom edge of the text box and i think you’ll see it.
As far as formatting it, if you click Edit >Highlight entire Story – you can then make changes to the whole thing

I’m still working with Publisher 2k so the detail may differ but I think you’ll find I’m right in principle.

      Good luck.

Thanks for this Tony but I use Crimson Editor these days. It has the added advantage of being able to set up simple macros and colour-code keywords in most scripting programmes. It handles Autoit beautifully (a scripting language that I believe you pointed me towards a couple of years back).

I use SimpleOCR which is free. I find it very good but must admit I’m not a big user. You could try it as it costs nothing but your time.

    • in reply to: unlinking pictures? (pub2000/win2000sp4) #962081

It’s a while since I used publisher, but if I remember correctly, grouped objects have a border around the whole group if you click anywhere in the group. On the bottom edge of this border is a’link’ symbol. Click on that symbol and it un-links, then click anywhere outside the group and the group is no longer a group.

As I say, I’m doing that from memory. I hope it works. Let me know.
