FYI, a three year old machine can’t have come with Vista. Vista’s general availability was February 2007. Vista was released to MSDN/Technet/Volume licensees November 2006.

Are you a pedantic old women or what??.Or just a F$%# whit.

I used the word ABOUT and picked 3 out of the air as I have no idea of the age of this laptop.

All I am worried about is fixing it.Which I have done thanks to Hans and Doc.

If you were to give us the make and model of this machine we could be of a lot more help.

If one does NOT get the CDs with their machine, them all of the OEM’s that I have seen, provide a way to make your own. Again the make and model will help us help you with this also.

      Dave.

I will find out the make and model.

I am aware that most machines don’t have discs with them these days as I have made up a number of recovery disc for other friends using the OEM tool.
As this lap top is about 3 years old I thought it would have them.

If I am unable to fix the MBR and do a clean install of vista will the old OS be saved as windows old?

You’ll find step-by-step instructions here: how to restore vista MBR?

      Hans / Doc.

      Thanks for the help.

For some reason the laptop has no discs with it.???

If I download a copy of vista home and make a boot disc with it. Then I should be able to fix it ???

I have a copy of vista ult but the repair option is disabled when I boot to it.

You can delete the partition. This thread Can I delete the system reserved partition from 100MB explains why you have the partition and its use.

    • in reply to: Two different desktops #1166827

If you mean two independent desktops for the same user – then no.

I think the best you could do would be to extend the desktop and run a virtual machine on one of the monitors.

      Joe

      Hans/Joe.
I have both monitors running [extended desktop]

I think your right Joe I have SunxVM with XP so I will add vista and run it on the other mooitor.
I binged some more and found a vitual desktop.I have not tried it as yet [been playing golf]
I will give it a run but a virtual machine seems the bettter way to go.

      Thans for the help.

      Thanks for the help.
While in event log I noticed another error report which led me to discover that I caused the error myself .
I deleted some files using raxco perfect disc .
I did a restore at a point before and it fixed the error.

Thank the computer god for restore points .

    • in reply to: Windows photo gallery error thats not an error #1161758

1.) Is the printer turned on and online?
2.) Do you have the most current print drivers? According to Epson you should use Windows Update for the latest drivers.
3.) Have you checked the Event Logs?
4.) Is this only for one picture?
      5.) Have you re-booted?

      Joe

I have . It happens for all pictures.Printer drivers updated.Printer on line as I can print using nero.
I checked event log but get a snap in error there???? see attached.

    • in reply to: Burn .mkv to DVD. #1158617

How do you mean burn .mkv files? Do you mean as .MKV (i.e. data files on the DVD) or convert them to VOB and then onto the DVD?

      Robie.
I have about 10 gig worth of .mkv files (matroska video)
I want to burn these to DVD [.mkv] so I can play them on the DVD player in the car.

      Gus.
