93%. I got no. 13 wrong. The answer is followed by this statement: “But we can say that ‘not all’ reasoning beings employ generalisations.” If this is the case then surely some do? So why is the answer then not valid?

As a fellow Gimper, if I could chuck in my 3p worth!

The Levels feature is useful for correcting some minor exposure problems. I tweaked the the input level mid grey to 1.2, the output black to 5 and the output white to 245 to even up 0027.jpg above. The boy’s shirt is bleached out and there’s not much you can do about it but the dark area to the left is more balanced.

Thanks for your input Jefferson. Sorry I didn’t spot it last night!

It would seem that the way forward is to use the Mail Merge feature. Once signed off by the H&S people the document is PDFed and does not change unless it is revved up due to a change in the works. In that case it becomes a new document anyway. I don’t know what a metadata cleaner is so I had best avoid using the document properties.

Thanks for the macro Hans. I’ll study it once the Mail Merge is up and running. We are tendering for more of this type of work so its great to get this sorted at the early stages.

      Thanks Hans

Is it possible to do a mail merge to produce new, additional documents? When I have used the mail merge function in the past, a one page letter, for instance, merged with 20 addresses would produce a single 20 page document. I would need the merge to be able to produce seperate documents per task per site. Most of the document information is, as you say, in fixed locations in the method statements.

Can I populate a table with all the variables and merge just one row at a time with a template document in order that I create the 200 finished documents as separate files?

And most importantly, do you think that doing the job this way is likely to save time?

I’m afraid I don’t have Paint Shop Pro on the home pc. I’ve got a copy of the Gimp which I use for image manipulation but for this scanner problem I only need to view the images. Perhaps I shall get a copy of Office Home now that the price has come right down and use Picture Manager as I do at work.

      Thanks for your interest

      Hi Doc

The scanner is a Canon Canoscan 5000f.

I downloaded the driver and Canoscan Toolbox software as there was no installation disc.

I’ve linked the scan to Windows Media Player now which displays the jpg quite swiftly. It can’t print but then I’m unlikely to want to print an image I’ve just scanned!

      Hans

I pasted your line into the File Name: box of the Select Application dialogue but the response was that the File Name Invalid as it’s looking for a .exe file.

The scanner works and the jpg is created if I use mspaint.exe or Image Data Lightbox that came with my Sony camera but both these applications have limitations.

I’ll have to leave it with mspaint.exe to create the jpg and then afterwards view it with Windows Picture and Fax Viewer.

      Thanks for your interest though.

      For what it’s worth:

A downland is an area of open chalk hills. This term is especially used to describe the chalk countryside in southern England. Areas of downland are often referred to as Downs.

The word ‘down’ derives from a medieval germanic or norse word — “dun”, a hill. (Wikipedia)

I live just to the east of the river Medway estuary where the river passes through a gap in the north downs which makes me a Man of Kent as opposed to a Kentish man which I would be if I lived the other side of the river.

Oh yeah, nice bliss shot Stuck!

      Thanks for your reply.

I’m going to implement both options. Option 1 will give our commercial people what they want now. Option 2 is a better option long term and I can develop the database in conjunction with a separate need to monitor working hours rather than just shifts booked.

      Thanks for the welcome back.
