AskWoody LoungerI just wanted to update you on my problem with IE 6. I happened to note on a newsgroup that someone else had a similar problem. Someone suggested to go to Advanced configuration of IE and uncheck “Enable third party browser extension.” It seemed simple enough so I tried it and it fixed the problem! I’m not sure what I did since I don’t know what third party browser extensions are.

AskWoody LoungerI frequently clean out the temporary files. When IE closes it deletes them. I also use “disk cleanup” quite frequently. As far as other software updating: I do not have Real Player. These are the “Processes” going on: agentsvr.exe, outlook.exe, avconsol.exe, webscanx.exe, mcshield.exe. vshwin32 avsynmgr, point32, fast, taskswitch, directcd, pptd40nt, fxssvc, fast, nvsvc32, explorer, spoolsv, ssonsvr, svchost, mrtmngr, msoffice, lsass, services, winlogon, csrss, smss, atomtime, printkey, qwdlls, qbdagent2001, cconnect, rulaunch, ctfmon, cmgrdian, alogserv, tgcmd, qttask, system, system idle process. They are all .exe files but I got tired of retyping them. The only application that I have open is Microsoft Outlook 2002.
Thanks for taking the time trying to help. -

AskWoody LoungerHI Dave,
I uninstalled both MacAfee products. Unfortunately that made no difference with IE’s behavior! I don’t suppose you have any other suggestions. -

AskWoody LoungerI don’t want to argue, but I’ve had McAfee on my system well before this issue began with IE. Why would something change to cause this problem?
-

AskWoody LoungerMcAfee Virus Scan, McAfee Firewall, Atomtime.exe, MS Outlook 2002 (part of Office XP), Cox Correct Connect (I used to use @home until they went bankrupt….Cox communications, my cable provider is now my ISP). I do not have RealPlayer…I use MS Media Player, The only application running with as noted in Task Mgr is Outlook.exe Under Processes there must be 45 .exe files.

AskWoody LoungerThanks for your explanation. Its nice to know that IE is repaired that way. Something else must be wrong because the problem did not go away. Can’t figure out what IE is doing since it is still in “Processes” after closing out of applications (all in Task Manager)

AskWoody LoungerDid all that….still the same problem.

AskWoody LoungerThank you for taking the time to answer my post and give me some further explanations. I tried that and nothing changed. I did note that checking that box only gives access to IE with an icon on the desktop and an entry on the start menu. I don’t think it has anything to do with the actual IE files. It is my understanding that IE cannot be uninstalled from Windows XP a la Microsoft’s law suits.

AskWoody LoungerI just looked at the Windows Setup. This is for Windows XP. The checked box is only to put an icon on the desktop and an entry on the start menu. (Description of the box) I understood that IE could not be removed from Windows XP, so how would this fix anything?

AskWoody LoungerThank you for explaining. I did that but unfortunately it did not fix the problem.

AskWoody LoungerWindows XP still has a control panel. I am not sure where and what you want me to uncheck and check. Please clarify. Thank you

AskWoody LoungerThis was a clean install.

AskWoody LoungerI just deleted all the rules that I created under Tools/Create rule. Outlook has not crashed once since I did that. Does anyone have any way to use the rules without it crashing Outlook. I really hate having to delete all the spam I get.

AskWoody LoungerThanks for taking the time to respond. I do not have NAV installed. I use McAfee with their firewall. I don’t believe that I am using Winfax. I am using the fax that comes with Windows XP. I installed it from the Windows CD ROM.

AskWoody LoungerFor more information sends me to a website that used to tell me to install the SP1 fix, which I did. Now it happens even more. Now there is no further information. Could it be related to the “Create rule” to delete garbage emails? After this occurs I get email from my server and the first email is always duplicated.
