      Glenda:

I don’t know if this will work for you, but when you said that there’s a lot of junkmail associated with hotmail, this gave me an idea.

Hotmail is a very widely used service. Therefore, the spammers are likely aiming for it a lot. Perhaps you could get an email address on an “unknown” domain, one the spammers aren’t aiming for.

For example, you might get your own domain, and then go with Dotster or some other company (yahoo, Gmail, Microsoft, or whoever) to host your domain and your email service. It wouldn’t cost much, and you’d have a permanent, custom-tailored email address of your own choosing.

      Jim

Thanks Jim, Can’t do that no income coming in so I need to go as cheep as possible and “free” is cheap.
It’s getting better. I just set up rules for my good mail and send it to my alias outlook. So far it is working but sometimes sites have more than 1 email. Rules don’t let you use more than 1 email on each rule. Be nice to add all emails for 1 site on 1 rule.

Thanks Joe…..I like sweep. I would like it better if the spam stopped but I guess this is something we live with when we go free. I have some other email accounts that don’t get any spam and I use that for really personal things.

      Hi Medico

I always use Malwarebytes Anti-Malware and Nod-32 both are up to date, I delete all history, cookies etc after every visit to internet with CCcleaner & Slim Cleaner.
All I know is that I could not log on to the internet for 4 days. Checked with AT&T and lines in and lines out were just fine. Tech there said IE9 was corrupt. Had me download IE10 then it was worse. Some of my start-up apps were missing also. The tech I took it to fixed my start-up and installed Google Chrome, said if I wanted him to check everything It would take 1 1/2 to 2 hours at $158. I said no I would take it. So far everything is working fine. Not sure what to look for to see if anything else is corrupt. I need to get this hard drive partitioned and imaged ASAP. Have not even tried IE9 and I don’t care to. This all started after download Tuesday. Anything special I need to do before I visit Windows download?

      Thanks ….. Glenda

Chrome (Google) is just trying to get you to sign in and have access to all things Google related that you might have, like Gmail, Google Plus, custom home page image, etc. etc. If you don’t use other Google products often then there is no need at all to sign in.

Also, I think the best we can do for margin bookmark lists in Chrome at the moment is the bookmark bar dropdown list . If you can drag that folder of bookmarks all the way to the left margin in the bookmarks bar and release it there it works pretty well. If you want a browser you can customize far more than any of the big three, try Avant browser, three engine render version where you can choose which of the three (FF, I.E., or Chrome) render engines you want to use at any time. It might be slightly more buggy at times as the cost to all that possible customization but no more than I’ve found I.E.10 and Chrome 20 something versions to be lately.

      Thanks……………..F.U.R. downtown…………………I will give it a try………………..glenda

      Thanks Medico

I can’t import favorites after a Windows Tuesday update my IE9 got corrupted it stopped me from getting on the internet for 4 days. I had to take it to shop and get it fixed. That is how I ended up with Chrome. My start-got messed up too. So I’m not sure if everything else is OK or not. So far everything is working.
I wanted to image the hard drive but I had not gotten to it and then the corruption. Now I want to see how Windows acts and then get that image done.

That is the 1 thing I miss from IE my favorites.

      thanks………….glenda

If the shop people installed Java and you don’t need it then uninstall it.

Otherwise, if everything is running OK right now you should probably leave it alone. IMO, you should consider using imaging software that is often discussed in the Maintenance forum. Just ask a question there and you’ll get plenty of responses.

      Joe

Yes I do plan on imaging have all the information for what I need to do just haven’t done it and got caught after the Windows Tuesday update.
Thanks to Retired Geek for his information.

Wow…………..Thanks everybody for your great input.

I will have to make a decision on what I am going to do. It’s a cheapie Canon MP190 from Wally World works great but way too much ink usage. It’s cleaning the heads itself quite often.

      Cloudsandskye…………..thanks for thread.

    • in reply to: Want to be rid of Java, again #1369552

This is the Java that is showing up on my computer.

jre-windows-i586 It is located in c:program filesjava It has 15.5 MB created on 5.21.10 . It is not showing up in Control Panel > Programs Site says to remove

older versions say way as the newer versions and I can’t.

Will CCleaner registry cleaner work to get rid of this Java or will I have to use SingularLabs’ JavaRa?

      Thanks…………..Glenda

      Thanks for the info Kelliann.
I have never seen so much junk mail as hotmail. No matter what I do there is always so much. When it shows up in my inbox I usually just send it to junk folder. Doesn’t seem to stop anyone. I wish Outlook would stop it in the first place. I have sent many messages asking just that but it doesn’t help. I get tired of setting up rules all the time so like I said I set the rules for my “good” mail and have it sent to the alias outlook folder, seems to be easier.

    • in reply to: Win 7 home Premium Why can’t I update Defender #1369533

Sorry my mind works faster than my fingers……Yes I had uninstalled Java.
So do you suggest I uninstall Java again?

    • in reply to: Win 7 home Premium Why can’t I update Defender #1369437

      Did re-boot and retried.

      Did not “clean boot”

      Thanks for the short-cut.

After all that mess my computer would not connect to AT&T DSL for 4 days. Called AT&T and they checked all lines coming in and going out. Everything was fine but still could not connect they said IE9 was corrupt and had me download IE10. That made everything worse and of course they could/would not help now because it was software related. So I ended up taking my computer to the shop (I was too afraid I would mess it up worse) they found that when Windows did their download Tuesday something got corrupted beside IE9. He found some of my start-up apps missing and had to reset all that back-up. He installed Google Chrome and then they said it would take 1 1/2 to 2 hours to check everything and re-do if necessary and it would cost me about $158. I brought it home with my start-ups restored and Google Chrome. I don’t know if anything else is corrupt and I don’t know how to check. So far everything has been working fine. So do you have a suggestion? I would like to get it where it is good again and do an image backup.

Does Google Chrome use Java? Because I notice Java is back on my computer and I had deleted it when it was suggested here. Also I don’t like to store any passwords so I am using Chrome without setting up a password am I asking for trouble here?

      Thank you……………glenda
