    • Open a wanted article or page. Right-click somewhere on the page and a context menu should appear. Select “Print” and a Print Dialog box should open. Near the top of the box on the left-hand menu there should be “Destination” and a “Change” button. Click on Change and select “Save as PDF”. Now the blue button at the top of the left-hand menu should say “Save” (instead of Print). Click on Save and choose where you want to save the document. It will save with all the text and graphics. Then you can open it with any PDF reader app.

This works in Windows 7 for sure. It probably works in Win 8/8.1 as well but i haven’t tried it yet.

I also posted this in the thread about coming changes to Windows Secrets Newsletter. Many of us are considering whether or not to pay up at a higher price when our subscription to the newsletter runs out. If we don’t pay then we may lose access to literally hundreds of useful how-to’s, best software lists and more. So, skim through current newsletters or archives (unless you’ve already saved everything you want) and open all articles/web pages you want to keep now and use the procedure above to save them in your documents folder on your computer.

Probably i’ll go ahead and renew my subscription next summer, but saving many good articles now will remove loss of access from my decision making. How about you?

My method of saving web site articles for years has been to highlight the article, copy it, and then paste it into a new document in MS Word or Open Office. This also gives me the ability to add notes, or edit. Add an appropriate name to the file and then file!

    • Try putting several periods in the space. The form will recognize as being filled in. The periods are inobtrusive, and it is easy to change the entry later if needed.

Similarly, I have updated my HP vista pc up to the latest Windows 8.1+. …..Even though HP and Microsoft support told me it wouldn’t go. Finally worked when I did a clean install. Re: Office Pro 2007 – had no problem installing it on my current setup. No work arounds needed.

Belarc Advisor is a neat and quite useful, free program that will provide you the information you seek, as well as a complete profile of your computer. Check out this link:

    • About a year ago, I too, had a problem with creating a restore point. Shortly afterwards, I found that my Windows backup didn’t work either. Much research, and then I found the problem. Allotment of space for System Restore. Check out this link: http://windows.microsoft.com/en-US/windows7/How-much-disk-space-does-System-Restore-require
      It worked for me.

Your comment “I can’t remember how I did it” brought to mind the tool that does it. Open up the Disk Cleanup tool. Near the bottom, click on “Clean up System Files.” A new window opens. Click on the “More Options” tab – and then in that window you will see the option to remove older System Restore & Shadow copies.

Have you tried the inbuilt snipping tool? It’s a bit basic but may match your needs.

Click the start orb, type snip in the search box and click snipping tool.

The Snipping Tool is a great basic tool, but isn’t included with Windows 7 Starter.

Please don’t, you’ll learn more by making mistakes, and you would be sadly missed on the forums.

My “expertise” came by reading articles, books and more importantly mistakes. (Some more than once!) However, I agree -sometimes that last tweak is one step too many.

Yup, it happened to me too! Got the McAfee downloaded and installed, didn’t catch the check mark (which I always do). Noticed what was happening during the install process. I went to program uninstall and removed it two minutes later. It is getting to be pretty disgusting downloading updates or programs from big companies – (toolbar extras are a big grip with me). I’ll bet most of the downloaders have no use for these add-ons.
