Well, well, well. Thank you all. here’s what I’ve discovered:
1] Using Insert Picture/File dramatically reduces the size making it something very close to the actual file size. The jpgs I’ve been saving in solo files to test are coming in at 110 or so K.

2] Re-sizing *before* inserting means that you are not being chrged for the original zie, only the compact size. I tried using more compression and sizing down to 4×3″ and ended up with a file size of 30K.

Hopefully, this will work when I re-insert the graphics.

Thanks again, and especially to BAM for pointing me in the right direction. Nowif only MS could fix this drag and drop problem!

Just tried that, and the RTF file went to 124Meg, then back down to the original 30Meg.

As for importing the jpgs, I’ve been dragging and dropping and then re-sizing in the word file. I’ll experiment with other ways.

      Thanks,
      Michael

Not RTF – even tried saving the same thing in RTF to see what would happen, and it was even larger.

It seems as if it is the jpg conversion.

OK: I took a 100K jpg and inserted it into an empty word file. It came in at 5 Megs.

I took all the pics out of my 22 page 10 picture report that weighed in at 30 megs, and not it’s 80K.

What does Word do to pictures?

Jackie – I tried to find the versioning you refer to in Options, but can’t. Please, where is it?

WHOOPS – JUST FOUND IT IN FILE/VERSIONS, butit wasn’t turned on in my case.

This has become a real pain, since my editor has not been able to download and Track Changes in the original i sent. He can only get the PDF version.

      Thanks, Michael

Thanks all. I’d already tried the options route and that didn’t work. But the msconfig tip was perfect. Who’d know there’s that much there at startup!

      Thanks, M

I find that sometimes rules are too specific and a slight change in the sender’s address, etc can make a difference. If you use Organize to make rules, this can happen easily.

      Just a thought.

    • in reply to: Junk Mail #518872

I use a couple of tricks. First, I own a URL registered with mydomain.com, and i have an email address, junk@gilbert1.net, which is all I ever give out at a web site. Needless to say, anything that comes to it goes to a junk folder.
I also have a key word rule: anything with !!, $, Free, Offer, asm well as a whole bunch of words i dare not list here goes to JUNK [actually Zjunk] which is a subfolder of my Inbox. I can then take a quick glance, and use CTRL-A, Delete to get rid of everything.
Hotmail, btw, is awful. I have one account there to collect error messages for a listserv i own, and the junk mail is incredible. I don’t find that at Excite.

Can’t anyone come up with a suggestion???

    • in reply to: NumLock Extinguishes #517143

OK – this is SO wierd. My numlock is on. goes on automatically at boot up – BIOS is set to ON. But, when I maximize Word or Money, it goes off. BUT, it comes back on again when I minimize it! if i turn it back on, then it stays on until something else makes it turn off.

This is very crazy. Is Bill out to get me???!!???

Thanks — Checked it, and it’s set to ON.

    • in reply to: Autotext need accept change #509773

Thanks for the reply. I am using Office 2000, and there seems to be no rhyme or reason or logical correlation to which come up as marked for change and which do not – and I am a logician.

yes, it is the entire entry. Iran the neat little macro from another thread and it listed all of my autotexts. Some came up marked as changed, others not. For example, I have a code, ‘ex’ that translates to an email address x – some are fine, others are not.

      it’s baffling.
