Continuing on my saga, the following DLLs have been cited by Events Viewer as causes of crashes:

      oledb32.dll
      gdi32.dll
      ntdll.dll
      mso.dll
      msctf.dll
      msmapi32.dll

They all reoccur regularly. BTW, having saved an events log file, what does one open it with?

      Thanks,
      Michael

yes, that’s what I meant. If I understand your question about the messaging service, then i use my university’s POP3 server via a cable connection. I have no IM service.

      Thanks,
      Michael

PS: I have to leave at 5.30, so if you don’t hear right away, that’s why. M

I cannot associate the crashes with absolutely anything. One or two have even happened while I was not in the program.

As for refreshing, I’ve run Windows Repair. I’ve got WXP Pro and Office 2003, all with updated service packs, so I’m not even sure how I would refresh my dlls.

      Thanks,
      Michael

Thanks for the idea, but I’m afraid I’m ahead of you. MS spyware detect is run every night, and both adware and spybot once a week. In addition, Norton runs a complete system virus check twice a week.
      Thanks,
      Michael

      Hi:
I have now run those two repair functions, and have also turned off Word as my email editor. Right now that seems to have done the trick. I’ll wait a few days and try using Word again to see if that is the trigger.

      Thanks,
      Michael

I ran Winfax Pro a while ago, but it’s not on my system anymore. I’m using a home computer [Dell dimension 8100, one gig ram, tons of hard drive space, recently defragged ], and no server, but I do have a router. I will close off Word as the email editor and see what happens. [Though I do miss my autotext entries when i do that.]

      Thanks,
      Michael

    • in reply to: How can I repair SP2 ? (WXP Pro SP2) #922534

Thanks for the suggestion, but the method you cite requires a disk. Since I’ve upgraded to SP2, I don’t have one.

I’m having troubles with various DLLs. Most lately it is effecting my printing – says Spooler Subsystem App won’t work. That uses unidrv.dll. Any further help appreciated.

      Best,
      Michael

Many thanks to all. Msconfig was exactly what I meant,. The autoruns program is also interesting.

      Thanks,

Indeed, that would work. Just takes a bit longer if cutting and pasting. But. I’ll try to remeber to bring the form up – should help.
      Thanks,

    • in reply to: Clipboard won’t paste (Office 2003 WXP) #867151

The failure to past does not happen all the time, and I cannot identify any sequence that triggers it. I went and tried and it occurred – that is there was no pasting. I tried to paste into several different Office applications and could not. The only exception was FronttPage which is Office XP, not 2003. So, I could not copy from any Office 2003 app into any other.

Subesequent to this, I rebooted. On a fresh boot everything worked fine, and still does. And there seems to be no correlation between the email being open or closed, and, yes, Word is my email editor. BTW, when I move my cursor over the clipboard the little drop down box for each entry does appear, but nothing happens if you say Paste.

      Hope this info is useful.

Sorry. Typically, I have collected several items from an email and want to paste them into a word document, specifically a table.

That seems to be the answer, Phil.
