Many thanks, O Mighty Wizard! I knew it had to be something obvious like that, but like the guy who hit the computer to get it working, ya gotta know where to hit it!

      Thanks once again,
      Michael

So, I had no trouble with the toolbar, but as soon as i re-installed Desktop, I had the same crashing issue. I’ve closed Desktop and told it not to start automatically, and things are OK. In other words, I did not have to uninstall it, just close it. Strange.

      Cheers,
      michael

    • in reply to: Beta 2 & Google (WXP) #1011198

Thanks for that. I’ve installed it and, so far, no problems. Now, I’ll re-install Desktop and see what happens.

      Thanks,
      Michael

That’s an interesting idea. I just looked at one and found: charset=”gb2312″ . I’ll keep an eye out and see if there is consistency.

      Thanks,
      Michael

    • in reply to: Calendar Views Toolbar (WXP. OXP) #974626

Thanks, Hans, but that didn’t help. Today while I was doing something else in control panel, I noticed a program: Calendar Views Add-In. I removed it, and that should do the trick.

      Thanks,
      Michael

Hi, and good questions. I alwyas use Rich Text as default, so that’s how they are sent. I went to one or two and clicked on REPLY and they came up as HTML. Maybe I should switch to plain text for a bit.

      Thanks,
      Michael

    • in reply to: Archive (2003) #955990

This is strictly a, For What It’s Worth, sort of input. I like to archive, but don’t really like using the archive.pst folders. For example, I help organize an annual conference, and I need to keep old emails – which may number close to 1000 – in a reasonable handy way to find and search. I discovered that Acrobat does a really super job of this. Just organize the emails in the way you most like them, e.g., oldest first or by sender, and then highlight all and send to Acrobat. Unlike TXT saving, it keep html emails, and makes everything look very nice. Then I just delete the old emails and save the PDF file.

If this isn’t clear, please tell me.

Well, I did the whole re-install, etc. Now everything seems fine. When I re-installed I chose Custom and rejected all the connections to Office. I will add the Outlook in a bit, once I know everything is working fine. Using Acrobat to create archives of old email is, as far as I’m concerned, far and away the best method of old email archiving.

      Thanks for the help, everyone.

Indeed, it is Acrobat. It’s absolutely amazing to me that two of the most basic programs most of us use cause problems for each other. I now have to find out how to re-install Acrobat 7 without putting in the Word components.

      Thanks,
      Michael

    • Thanks! Now, I did that and I did not receive the prompt. Just to make sure I also closed down OL and Winword in the Processes window, but no queries. Following that thought, I went to my templates folder, and discovered that the last change made to Normal.dot is March 28th! I’m getting the sinking feeling that [once again] I have to delete normal.dot. Any less irksome suggestions?

      Thanks,
      Michael

    • in reply to: track changes help (WordXP – SP3) #952223

I have constant issues with Track Changes. Many times when I insert a glossary entry [autotext] it appears as a change in track changes. You can get rid of this by turning off View/Markup, but it is still there as a change. I’ve actually created a toolbar button that automatically Accepts All Changes.

If anyone has a better way of stopping this annoying habit., I’d love to know it.

      Best,
      Michael

OK, I’ve done that, though nothing much happened when I ran FIXMAPI.EXE. Is that all right?

      Thanks,

The verison I have is 11.0.6361.0. As I mentioned, it did not seem to overwrite anything when I copied it to windows/system,

Done. I found msmapi32.dll in C:Program FilesCommon FilesSystemMSMAPI1033, as opposed to
      C:Program FilesCommon FilesSystemMapi1033NT
where you said. Does that mean anything? Also, it appeared as though there was no copy of msmapi32.dll in
C:WINDOWSSystem32. That is, I was not asked if I wanted to replace the file.

      Thanks,
      Michael
