By sheer coincidence, I too, was just having this problem when I came here to see if there was anything regarding this in the Lounge. My homepage (msn.com) and the Lounge pages and others were displaying correctly, but anything from Microsoft would not display the .gifs AND the frames were messed up. I was trying to do a KB search and I couldn’t even get the product pulldown to work until I refreshed the page about 5 times. When I did get a search, the results got compressed into a 3 inch high box with a scrollbar whose bottom arrow was hidden beneath the dark blue border at the bottom of the page. After reading your post, I restarted my system and the problem cleared. Funny thing is that this was so site specific – none of the Microsoft sites (Office Update, KB, etc.) were working while others that have lots of .gifs and frames were. I only upgraded to IE 6 about 30 days ago and this was the first time I’ve noticed this behavior. The only ‘interaction’ candidates I can think of are Adobe Acrobat Reader V 5.0 and WebStripper which have been installed in the past three weeks.

    • in reply to: Upgrade recommendation for NS 4.04 (NS 4.04) #581354

I appreciate your feedback. But, the 4.7x versions seem to go from 4.7 to 4.79. Should I just assume the highest number is ‘best’ and go for 4.79 or are there issues that would make one of the other variations cleaner?

    • No – I’m not using the FileOpen or GetSaveAsFileName functions because I only want to put up a ‘Choose Folder’ function and both of those built in dialogs have unwanted side effects.

Charlotte, in the reply above your’s, gave me a bunch of additional stuff to run down.

For something that I would have thought would have been somewhat simple, this is turning into a much bigger can of worms then I expected.

It depends on your definition of ‘High End’. If you need to scan several thousand pages each day, Gary is right in recommending a vendor like Kodak that makes products for this market. If you just need to scan a few hundred pages a few times a week, HP probably has the better choices.

John Walkenbach has this download for handling dates prior to 1900 on his site:

    • in reply to: using Match & Index Functions alone & together #522753

      >Oh , I still want to know “what should MATCH(A1,B3:G5,0)) ->- had a typo in my 1st posting — return?”.

      Apparently, #N/A

      Although the Help says:

Lookup_array is a contiguous range of cells containing possible lookup values. Lookup_array can be an array or an array reference.

It looks like they’re definition of contiguous means in a continuous line — within a single row or single column. It appears that MATCH, despite calling the second argument “lookup_array”, does not like an array for its input

This is all from Excel8 SR-2

    • in reply to: using Match & Index Functions alone & together #522676

The only way the Index example will work, is if you select the number of cells = to the number of expected returned values (in this case two) and array enter the formula in this range. It returns 2 in the first cell and 4 in the second.

Your first Match example works as described — Match returns the ‘position’ within the array or range so if you want to interpret it as a ‘ROW’ number, place your values in a Column starting in Row #1.

Your problem as stated is a bit confusing since you have six elements in your Match range and 5 in your Index range, but you’ve indicated you want to return a vector row from an array. Where is this array?

    • in reply to: Formuli on filtered data #521710

Because the topic was regarding ‘filtered’ data. See the below excerpt from the Excel 8 Help on Subtotal:

SUBTOTAL will ignore any hidden rows that result from a list being filtered. This is important when you want to subtotal only the visible data that results from a list that you have filtered.

    • in reply to: blank spreadsheet #1780991

      Maybe it really is blank…
Using Excel 8 SR-2 (Office97), if I save a new workbook with no entries (using 3 worksheets as the default for a new workbook), the file size is 14K. Saving a new ’empty’ workbook with 16 worksheets is 17K. Sounds like you could have a workbook with nothing in it.

    • in reply to: Increase/Decrease Indent #1780708

There are increase and decrease indent buttons on the formatting toolbar. If you want to use short-cut keys, you’ll need to write a short sub-routine that changes the IndentLevel Property of your selection and assign your desired short-cut combination to it.

    • in reply to: Excel 2K – Formula too long msg #519790

Edited by GeneO on 01/03/21 23:03.

I did some testing and on my installation of Excel 8 SR-2, the limit seems to be 1024 characters in a Formula.

Can anyone confirm if that’s the case in Excel9?

      Post entry edit…
(I found an answer in Q264626 which indicates 1024 is the limit in Excel 2000 also)

    • in reply to: Excel 2K – Formula too long msg #519733

Presumably… The people describing their problem to me are in a different location and I haven’t been able to see this directly. I just did a short test on my own machine, and I have formulas, which I can edit with no trouble, that are over 1000 characters long when the full path names are displayed.

Again, the only difference I can discern so far is that they’re using O2K — I’ve delayed my install of O2K pending completion of a project.

    • in reply to: excel headers and footers #1780527

It sounds as if you only set-up your desired header/footer on one sheet. If you want the same thing on multiple sheets, do a Group select (select left most sheet, hold down Shift key and select right most sheet) of all the sheets you want to have the same header/footer. Go to File-Page Setup-Header/Footer and enter the data you want. ALL the sheets you have selected will now have the same header/footer.

    • in reply to: Printing multiple ranges on one page #519181

Another way is to ‘paste pictures’ of your dispersed ranges onto one sheet arranged in the way you want to see the printout. Check Excel Help for “Pictures” and check the topic titled: “Create a picture of cells and link it to the source data”.

      Another suggestion…

The Print drivers being used may make a big difference. Are the slow machines using a different printer?
