Yes, actually it is the folder in which the document is saved in. I suppose there is no way to change this?!

Thanks for the tip. We will be prepared for this eventuality.

Thanks for the tip. I’ll try it as soon as I have some time this week.

That is pretty much what I need to do. There are four of us that, from our different offices, regularly add new files (office documents) to the public folders. My hard disk is used as back-up #1 and each month I have to copy all folders/files from my hard disk to a cd as a 2nd back-up. At this point I go through every folder and sub-folder of the public files and check for any files added during the current month. One problem is that this takes way too long and the second is that we’ve noticed that when someone simply opens and updates a file on Exchange, the date remains the same as when the original document was added to the public folders so more often than not I don’t end up with the most recent version on my hard disk.

My boss has two address folders in Outlook; He ran the “fax” macro in his Contact folder and for about twenty odd contacts the macro didn’t work. Out of curiosity he copied one of these contacts into his second folder and ran the macro again; it worked. Any idea as to why this would happen?

Thank you for the help, John. This was much quicker than changing each of my 1000+ contacts individually.

I’ve been having a similar problem with the address book. I’m glad I read through some messages before posting my question. Thanks for the tip about adding F in front of fax numbers, I tried it in a few contacts and it works nicely. It will save me much time and confusion when using the address book.
      bravo

    • in reply to: Windows XP & Norton Anti-virus (WindowsXP home) #703293

Thanks for the advice; I followed your instructions. Right at the end of the installation process I Norton icon appears on my desktop, then the I see the words “roll back” in the dialogue box and the icon disappears. Both the Norton and the Symantec folders are in the program files but there is nothing on the desktop or in the Start menu. I was able to get the live update but I don’t know where to go to do a virus scan as I can’t find it anywhere and I am no longer able to do searches (the “bubble” with the search choices appears but it is tiny and has no options). I’d appreciate more ideas. Thanks again!

    • in reply to: Using shortcuts (Office 2000) #698946

      Hi again everyone,
Thanks for the advice I’ve received so far. Before vacation my two bosses and I added a new account to our computers and moved all of our shared documents into this account. So we have three computers with the same path: Documents and Settings/username(the same one on all computers)/my documents. We did a trial run with a couple of shortcuts and they worked so I spent hours creating new shortcuts, copying them onto the cd so that they could copy the files onto their computers. I was so proud of myself! Well guess what? Apparently they didn’t work. In the properties dialog box for the shortcut, the target it missing after being copied. The shortcuts work fine on my computer. Does anyone have any more ideas to pass along before I pitch my computer out the window?
