    • With the IP number, I get Google’s home page interface, but when I enter a search term, it brings up the Server Timeout/Network Error (Page could not load) standard message.
With ping, it gives me this message:
‘PING’ is not recognized as an internal or external command,
      operable program or batch file.

Although when I tried PING, a firewall notice prompted me to allow/disallow…cant’ recall the language for sure…something from injecting into the memory of the registry…? I did a screen shot but copied other things later & lost my screen cap. I told the prompt YES allow.

      Here’s the workbook.

      Yes, same error:

An error occurred trying to import your file [path]. The file was not imported.

      Don’t you mean Task PAIN?

Using the Mail Merge Toolbar, and Insert Merge Field, my merge works fine. I’m still befuddled! by how the wizard is supposed to be helpful. It doesn’t ask where to place the merge fields and it doesn’t offer my own chosen field names as merge fields.

I see my own problem, I had hard returns above the table. I’ve forgotten that Word needs the table to be the very first thing in the document.

However, I’m unclear on how to add my data through the wizard. The boilerplate options (address block, greeting) don’t apply to my data. I’m sure missing the classic way to do this, though it involved toggling between documents.

Editorial comment: This wizard is not intuitive, which would be “if you are a thinking person, you can reason your way through this, because it is set up logically.” It is insistent, demanding that I think a certain way.

      Thanks Red,

The direction you describe is the one I’m having problems with. Perhaps the error messages I’m encountering are not common. I’m attaching screen shots and hope there’s specific help for that.

I have an additional crash dump message…here is the full run down of past messages, and the new one (***). My drivers are fine. Please, any more advice? Could it be my memory chips (about a month old–no problems until a few days ago).

After logging in normally, I got a similar blue screen–this time

I restarted the computer, and this is what came up as it restarted.

I appreciate your help. Thanks in advance.

Thanks Joe. I needed to update a RAID controller driver. Speaking of drivers, I checked for most of the devices. Do I need to search for updates for Control Panel/Device Manager/System devices, or USB devices? It seems pretty cumbersome to right click each thing….is there a shortcut to checking for drivers?

Thanks. I saw a few things but all about XP. I have Vista *Service Pack 1* running on a machine that used to have XP.

    • Thanks! That worked.

I still wonder what I did to change it? I seem to remember trying to exit quick and hitting
an odd menu instead of Xing out of the program….what takes that row of options away?

    • Actually, no. I don’t want itsy bitsy commands, I want the main Email Editing buttons, the big-ass icons that every e-mail ought to have. Going to View/Toolbar gives me the following lame options: Editing and Formatting. This is not Word. I don’t know how all the basic email actions can just disappear. It happened all at once, I am thinking there must be a very simple one step toggle to bring them back. I hope I’m not too cranky about this.

It’s a private institution, I’m not willing to do that. Thanks for the help so far.

    • in reply to: Active cell in new record (2003 SP3) #1103773

Still not working, Hans. It’s doing as previous–whatever cell was active previously, before I hit Page Down for the next record, that is where the cursor is on the new blank record. But I don’t get any error messages now.

Getting an error message about needing to specify a macro group.
If this is a network-permissions-exclusive rights problem, I won’t pursue it at this time.
If it’s not, I’d appreciate more help.
