Thanks to all who responded. I finally solved the problem by creating an account for my wife with a new name and deleted the one with the problem. All seems to be well, at least for the moment.

Berton- my bad! There is not supposed to be a space there, my keyboard can’t spell! Certainly can’t have anything to do with me???

      Sudo15-

Yes, the Kodak card reader has worked on many occasions on this computer. However, the built-in SD/MMC card reader has rarely, if ever, worked properly which is why I keep the Kodak reader on hand.

I still have no clue how to go about refreshing the device drivers for the drives missing/not shown in “Devices with Removable Storage”.

      Sudo15-

As I said before, the drives (other than F: ) do not appear in My Computer (in the Devices with Removable Storage section) and only F: shows in Device Manager under Portable Devices. Given that situation I am at a loss as to how to refresh the drivers for the devices I cannot see. BTW, I did try a device driver update to the F: in Device Manager and the result was that the latest/correct driver was installed.

      Sudo15-

Thanks for the reply. There is no driver error showing anywhere in Device Manager and, BTW, only the F: drive shows in Portable Devices. I can try System Restore later if I can’t come up with another fix but, to be honest, I only rarely use the removable devices, mainly to download .jpeg files from a memory card, and consequently have no idea when this problem started.

Thanks for the tip on the drive letter in brackets- I wondered what in the world was going on there!

      macropod-

Thanks for the reply! Would not appear to have anything to do with zoom. The supposed 16pt text actually appears to be much smaller in the document and in printouts than the 12pt text.

      Berton-

Thanks for the reply! I can add text to the end of the document with about any other font I choose.

    • in reply to: Dragon Naturally Speaking 11 not dictating in Word 2007 #1511098

      All-

I (finally!) bit the bullet and completely uninstalled and re-installed Dragon. Everything is now working properly. Why it ever went “belly up” in the first place remains a mystery. One final item of interest- with the re-install, Nuance pushed the Opera browser onto my computer with no prior warning. What’s that about???

Anyway, thanks to all of you for your posts. All’s well that ends well…

    • Rick- dgnword.dll is where it should be and the Details tab gives no indication that anything is amiss. Bit of a mystery going on here… And, as I have previously indicated, it does not show either as COM add-in or in the disabled list.

    • jwoods- thanks for the post. There is nothing in the “Disabled Items” list. Therein lies the problem (and the “Add” in COM does not work for me either).

    • Rick- I am using Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit and (obviously) Office 2007. I still don’t understand why I can’t add the missing drgword.dll in Word Options/Add-ins.

    • Rick, thanks for the post! I think you are on the right track as far as re-registering that dll is concerned. I used your code in cmd and it failed saying that version 12 was not valid so I changed the code to NaturallySpeaking11 and got the return that was “not a valid module” or some such.

I have gone through the Word Options routine (several times!) and the problem there is not that dgnword.dll is disabled in COM. It simply is nowhere to be found in Add-ins at all and the “Add” routine in COM does not work.

I may have to do as Paul (and you) have suggested and uninstall DNS and then re-install. If I do uninstall I will b using Revo Uninstaller at the highest level which will remove all traces of the program which is often not the case using the native Windows Add and Remove routine in Control Panel. I am, however, going to hold off on the uninstall/re-install routine for a bit to see in any other Loungers might come up with any additional helpful info.

    • Thanks, Paul. This would be a “last resort” but if all else fails…

      Spokes-

Thanks for the post, it is good to hear from a satisfied LastPass user. I presume that to find your LP passwords you would import them to a .csv file or some such?

    • in reply to: Password storage software #1474145

      Rick & ruirib-

Thanks for the replies! I believe that I will screw up my courage and install the free version of LastPass. BTW, I compared the free and premium versions and since I will be using LastPass only on my desktop I have no need for the premium version. The subscription for premium IS quite reasonable!

Thanks again to all for your inputs!
