Charlotte, I’ve tried to open Access from the Office toolbar, from a shortcut I’ve placed on the desktop, and from Windows Explorer. If I click on a XXXXX.mdb file which, of course, should first open Access, I get no better results. I’ll slightly qualify that—Northwinds Trading will open to the first screen and no further. With my level of expertise I think MS Works database will do all I need. Still, if you think of something, I’d appreciate a come back. Thank you.

Hi Puzzled, I’m probably way off base with this but “691” brings to mind an error code. Don’t ask me more.

The Windows 98 Startup Disk includes a set of generic
CD-ROM drivers. These drivers work with most IDE ATAPI
      and SCSI CD-ROM models.

If your particular CD-ROM drive does not work with
these drivers, you will need to use the drivers that
      came with your CD-ROM drive.

Following are some known issues about the CD-ROM drivers:

      1. CD-ROM drives connected to sound cards may not work
      properly.

      2. Early proprietary CD-ROM drives (for example, Mitsumi,
Panasonic, Sony) may not work with these drivers. Some
older IDE controllers may fail as well.
Thanks for all the replies but the above was pasted from the readme.txt on the Win98 startup disc. IF I did find a driver would I copy it to the startup floppy? Providing there is ample space. Most drivers are only a few kb’s. I’m lost and probably should just give up. Thanks again. Ecnav

Thanks, but I checked the cabling and they are both OK. If Win98 were loaded then the CD drive would be plug and play but my C drive is formatted so I need an operating system. The CD drive is Matsu######a-Kotobuki model CR-563-B. I checked Google for drivers for it and/or the Soundblaster card. What is the last OS that was offered on floppies? angel Then I could do some up grading.
