Thanks for all the advice, the Symantec site states that any disk previously formatted should be erased by using the unformat utility. There are a couple of ways in NERO, but I cannot get any of them to work after they have been used once.

I idea was a third party utility that may have achieved the same result. That is return the disk to it’s native state.

I purchased a new PC about two years ago, Intel P4-1.8 with a DVD player about two years ago, I upgraded to 1Disk Version 3.6 at that time. I have put up with the problem since that time. I have a Yamaha 3200E burner and an ASUS DVD player. The problem is just annoying and is not causing any problem. 1Disk does not operate with DOS, I started with version 1 and have every upgrade to the current version 3.6., actually after the initial boot of the day the problem is not always evident, which is making it difficult to trace.

      Many thanks

I should have added that 1Disk is a phantom HDD that catalogs the contents of removable media, it uses a writing format that creates a virtual HDD and must be initialized when windows starts, I use it for my LS120 and LS240 media. The best feature is that you can have the same folder name on different media and 1Disk copes with that by the removal disk volume number. I have had the program about 8 years, purchased all the updates but no work has been done since the release of XP. Looks like I may have to dispose of all the LS drives, and the media and transfer the information to CD-RW.

I will try the delay program that I have downloaded STARTUP DELAY http://www.r2.com.au/ [/url] and see what results.

      Thanks for the advice.

Thank you for the quick response, it is similar to many other cataloging programs and has the definite advantage of being free. 1Disk creates a virtual hard drive on your system and builds a database around the disk. If you have two or more folders on the removable media it combines them on this virtual hard disk in an explorer type window. You select the file you want and the software gives a dialog box asking for the media by whatever identifying number you had previously selected. I really wish it would work on Windows XP Home. Their tech support reckon it does????

If you find anything please put up another post to this forum.

Certainly if you import the document into Omnipage 10 and above there is a voice read back feature available

The other site that makes it easy is http://www.bysierra.com/attritude.html%5B/url%5D I always do it with DOS but both programs mentioned are easier if the DOS knowledge is forgotten

Have a look at http://www.ask-nic.com/xpreadonly.html%5B/url%5D but tread with caution. There is a method of creating the URL as a link but I forget, some genius published it as a series of graphics. Does anybody know?????

I can understand your first advice re posting a url and in my example following have substituted curly brackets in lieu of the square brackets so a url would look like {http://www.ted.com} but I do not understand how or what you mean by {/url} again with curly brackets would you please explain further.

      Thanks
