AskWoody LoungerOkay – but if you fail to maintain that one, that will become slow as well.
Why do you assume it was not maintained? It has been meticulously taken care of. Bloatware removed CCleaner run on a monthly basis, programs not needed at startup disabled from starting unless called for.
The killer was going to Win10. So I suggest you don’t jump to conclusions and make assumptions. -

AskWoody LoungerI may have missed a comment on this, but if you decide to upgrade the memory on your eMachines computer, make sure that you can go above 2 GB. I have an eMachines desktop which is about the same age as your eMachines laptop; the highest I can go is 2 GB. It is running Windows 7-32, and it is a pretty sluggish machine. About the only option I have for speeding it up is to install an SSD as the Windows drive.
What I’m saying is, if you can’t go above 2 GB, you’re probably better off buying a new computer with more memory (at least 4 GB). Another advantage with a new computer is, all components will be up-to-date.
It will take 4GB however it is almost 8 years old and I figure I’m better off with a new machine.

AskWoody LoungerPost back if you would like assistance with saving/uploading a screenshot using just the tools that are built-in to Windows 10, i.e. without using MS Word.
Hope this helps…

AskWoody LoungerChromebooks run the Linux-based Chrome OS as their operating system. As a result you wouldn’t be able to install your Microsoft Office 2007 suite or any other application designed to run in a Windows operating system, even if it did have an optical drive.
Hope this helps…
I have 1000+ Word documents that I would need to read and edit, Would the Polaris app that I use on my phone be available to use on a Chromebook ?

AskWoody LoungerTo find out how much RAM is being used fire up Task Manager and view the memory use, preferably by program. Let us know what is using RAM / post a screen shot.
cheers, Paul
I can’t seem to find a way to save a screen shot in a format that I can upload here.
I tried print screen and placing the screen shot on to a Word 2007 docx but I can’t save it in any format that I can upload here. The screen shot shows 84% Memory use and 70-80% CPU usage.
I’m wondering if I an better off buying a Chromebook. However I don’t know how I will load my Microsoft Office 2007 on to one since they don’t have an optical drive.

AskWoody LoungerApril 20, 2015 at 3:54 pm in reply to: How to hack Wow computer to use printer other than HP Inkjet? #1500785Looks to me like the WOw! was designed to prevent hacking—elderly people are especially vulnerable. You even go through their servers if I read the AV protection correctly.
I suspect you may find your 90 yo mother will not be receptive to learning a new system…and possibly not capable, just stresses her and you out. Cheaper to buy an updated HP if that is the issue IMNSHbut experiencedO. If she uses it to print photos an inkjet will work better than a laser printer, even if the cartridges are outrageously expensive.
I can understand being frustrated but making alterations in her life may be more detrimental than going along. That is for you to evaluate.
It is open source.
http://www.mywowcomputer.com/opensource.htmlBased upon my use of Chrome and my 90 year old mothers skill level, I believe she will pick it up with some time spent with me teaching her

AskWoody LoungerApril 20, 2015 at 8:28 am in reply to: How to hack Wow computer to use printer other than HP Inkjet? #1500728Sorry to be a wet flannel but it doesn’t look possible to change from an HP to a Brother printer. Reading up on the Wow! in different forums (including Linux forums) it appears that, although the Wow!/Telikin Elite is based on an open source version of Linux (Tiny Core Linux), the closed-source custom UI is designed to prevent any access “under the bonnet” whatsoever. There’s no way to bring up a terminal nor are you able to add programs yourself (even if a package manager was available, which it isn’t).
From the Wow! tech specs, it looks like the only thing you can do is get a better HP printer – “Most recent HP printers will work with your WOW! Computer – just plug the USB cable from your printer into the WOW! Computer.”
Sorry but if people in the Linux community aren’t exchanging tips about how to customise these Wow! PC’s then I doubt that anyone on WSL is suddenly going to come up with a solution.
Rick,
Thank you very much for your research and answer.
You confirmed my worst fear that my mother is stuck with the HP InkJet. I just called AARP and they confirmed that I can’t even use an HP Laser printer. If I can’t find someone that someone to hack this thing and get a laser printer to work I will buy her a Mothers Day present of a LG Chromebase 22CV241-W All-in-One Desktop Computer
Again thanks

AskWoody LoungerHi Double Tap,
Open Outlook 2007
Tools > Account Settings > Email Tab
You should see both your Exchange email account and the POP3 account.
Note: Before proceeding you should check your have a PST Folder in the Data Files tab to store your POP3 emails. If not create one.
Highlight the POP3 account and then click on the “Change Folder” in the lower area of the Account settings window.
Select your desired PST folder for incoming email to be stored.
Enjoy.
Thanks much

AskWoody LoungerI use the free mini tool Partitiion Wizard. Very easy.
The instructions for unallocated space to the right or left are similar as EaseUS Partition Manager mentioned by F.U.N. I have both apps, but always seem to use Partition Wizard since that is what I started with.
Thanks much

AskWoody Lounger”A man convinced against his will, is of the same opinion still”.
If you truly believe that Windows, right out of the box, is already as good as it will ever be, then you won’t be willing to try something that just might make it better. Inside the box, Windows comes with tons of SAFE defaults built in, so it will run without crashing on the greatest number of PC’s in the world, even PC’s with only 256 megs of ram.
But for every SAFE default, there is a tweak or adjustment that will improve performance. I regularly use just one registry tweak that makes a huge difference in the efficiency of XP, Vista or Win-7. I was poking around in another forum where I posted, several years ago and found this Gem.
I do that simple registry tweak on every PC I set up.
Here’s a good write-up on the subject:
http://www.pcmag.com/article2/0,2817,887799,00.aspIf you really understand how Windows works, you’ll know that this tweak Works Wonders!
Cheers Mates!
