There seem to be at least two of these sites around. In addition to yours, there is The Ultimate Steal

I agree that there are other sites offering similar prices. The ‘Ultimate Steal’ is as cheap but its conditions of purchase, i.e. must have valid .ac (.uk) email address, means it is only available to students at colleges and universities. What marks my suggested supplier is that the offer is also open to purchasers with children in secondary and primary schools, where it would be unusual for them (the students) to have college email addresses.

It is the more universal availability of the offer that prompted me to post about it.

      Thanks guys.

American Soda do now have Hidden Valley Ranch in stock. Postage is rather steep. I finally found a bottle on ebay at a more reasonable postage rate. Once I’ve tried this brand and found whether I like it, I can buy larger quantities more economically or try making it myself using the recipes you’ve highlighted.

Carolyn – aah, if I still lived in Edinburgh I wouldn’t have had a problem. Bags of delis – I remember a great one just across the Meadows from the hospital. Very long time ago though! Mansfield, where I live now, is the a***hole of England and delis are unheard of hereabouts.

Some years ago on a flight into Heathrow the Captain announced that it would be a bumpy landing due to the poor weather. Sure enough I had a good view down the runway as the plane came in pointing well to the left.

What made it memorable was that after the announcement when the music came back on it was “Ride of the Valkyries”

I’ve been very happy with Fire ftp, which is a Firefox addon. Very simple and gets on with uploading in the right format without causing problems, which can’t be said for Filezilla.

      Hi BATcher

Many thanks for the bat script. It runs a dream although I found out I needed to remove the words ‘Files to be copied’ out of the set files line for it to work.

Can I ask you for 2 additional bits of help. Firstly, what do you put in your autorun.inf file to start the process automatically? Second, in the last line (endlocal) what would I put to have the batch file run a further program, e.g. PStart.exe?

Very many thanks, BATcher. This is far more than I expected. I’ll be amending and trying it out over the next few days.

Thanks to both of you for the suggestions. The RunCommand did the trick. I’ll look further into your other workaround, Hans, as it seems to be more elegant than running through the whole table in VBA.

    • in reply to: Disk access light won’t go out (XP SP3) #1127241

Just a follow up in case anyone has the same or a similar problem. WD support were useless and I eventually found this on an HP forum (google ‘nx6125 hd light’):

“On some systems, the drive activity LED may stay on constantly with the newest 2.5-inch drives. This is because the motherboard LED circuitry does not properly detect the correct signal voltage used by the drive.

“Mobile drives are moving to using 3.3 volts on the interface lines (from 5 volts on previous models) to reduce power consumption. Systems should be able to detect the lower voltage according to the ATA specification.

“If the system is unable to properly detect the correct voltage of the mobile drive, it will cause the drive activity light to stay on constantly. This is not a problem caused by the drive. This will not hurt the drive or the system in any way.”

Thanks for the replies, guys. I’ve been away from the computer for a couple of days so sorry for the delay in responding.

Joe, the disk access light comes on immediately. I guess I didn’t notice it since I upgraded the HD at the beginning of last week. I was concerned that I’d lost power management and felt that that was the cause, along with a couple of virus attacks that I’d cleaned out. I’ve tested the HD by booting into a Linux CD – the light still comes on, so it must be a hardware problem.

I’m not convinced that there isn’t another problem being masked but for now I’ll follow up with Western Digital’s support dept.

For many years I have used a product called Repligo for viewing documents on my PocketPC. Repligo allows for documents to be dynamically reformatted on the flly to suit the cramped screen. I believe they do something for the Blackberry. http://www.cerience.com/%5B/url%5D

Glad I could help, and thanks. Funny seeing your reply tonight – just arrived back a couple of hours ago from Florida, been “doing” Disney (or was that being done?). Quite an experience and my 10-yr old thoroughly enjoyed it.
