Just a tip to further this discussion… if you are trying to view older Win95 FAX format files with the .AWD extension in Windows 2000, you can NOT, unless you use a 3rd party utility as Windows 2000 imaging doesn’t support the AWD format.

We were able to IMPORT AWD files into the PaperPort scanner software program, and then convert them to other image formats (i.e. GIF, JPG, BMP) for sharing with others. However, we first had to install a few DLLs into the WINNTSystem32 directory (see attached zip of these DLLs).

      Thought I would share…

Have you updated your display drivers recently?

If so, that could be causing a problem.

If not, there may be an updated video driver for your display adapter type from the manufacturer’s website.

Lastly, you could try running the System File Checker from a command prompt

      SFC /? to see options

You will need the Windows 2000 CD in the drive to run this.

I think MaryJ was correct in her first suggestion.

I changed my Outlook options to “use word as my email editor”, and then I could NOT select multiple files. After unchecking that option, I can now select multiple files for attachments.

TOOLS -> OPTIONS -> MAIL FORMAT Tab (see attached)

Well, we decided to bite that bullet and deal with the Outlook Attachment problems, just to get the benefits of SP2. We’ve been teaching our users to ZIP files instead of sending ones with the prohibited extensions (EXE, COM, URL, etc). It hasn’t been that bad to support.

We are looking forward to Outlook 2002, where you can disable/edit the prohibited extensions on the client.

Can you create a new user, and login as that user, just to see if the ALL User profile settings fix that problem for that user? If so, then you might be able to copy that profile or registry settings to your user?

Does this problem occur for all users that login to this machine?

      Thanks Leif !!!

this is exactly the tip I needed.

We have yet to implement DDNS, since we are still in “mixed mode”.

I modified the registry entry as that tip suggested, and now my “Look In” dropdown opens in half the time.

      thanks again…

      Thanks Leif.

Yes, we are on a network with a T1 connection.

If we click on the File -> OPEN, then click on the drop-down for “LOOK IN”, and wait 5-10 seconds for the dropdown to appear, and then close the FILE -> OPEN box, the next time we go back in to open a file, it is much quicker when viewing the “LOOK IN”.

But if we close WORD, and then go back into WORD the slowness returns. this is not just with Word, but all Office applications and Windows Explorer.

There has to be some way to speed this up. It is much quicker on the same network using Win95 and Office2000.

We found that we needed to install Service Pack 2 for Office2000 to get Photo Editor to work as we needed. We were having Photo Editor print errors, and SP2 fixed it for us:

Let us know if this fixes your permission problems.

      Thanks for the suggestion.

This sluggish situation I am describing occurs on a machine without the CD drive installed as well.

      Any other thoughts?

I have full control and ownership over the system root.

My error is not “Access Denied”, but “Object Already Exists”.

Don’t know why this is happening to only a few of our similarly configured computers.

      Any other thoughts?

      Hey Mark,

Did you ever figure out an answer to this one? I, unfortunately, have encountered the same problem on a few machines and can not figure out a fix.

The below MSKB article on the Task Scheduler is the error I am receiving, but their suggestion doesn’t fix it on my computer.

      http://support.microsoft.com/support/kb/ar…s/Q246/1/83.ASP

Every time I try to schedule a TASK, the error I receive is “Object Already Exists”. I have full administrative rights to this machine with Win2K SP1 and IE55SP1.

      Any suggestions are welcome.

    • in reply to: unable to display sent items folder #520850

Sounds to me that your “online”/network Sent Folder is still available in your network mailbox and your PST – personal folders file “SENT” folder is the one not visible.

Is this true? If so can you see any of your newly sent messages in the network SENT folder? Can you move any messages into that PST Sent folder?

You may also need to go to your network SENT folder and choose VIEW -> Current View -> SENT TO or Current Messages. I have seen where messages seem to “disappear” when the view is set incorrectly. We had one user change their INBOX view accidentally to VIEW -> UNREAD messages, and thought every read message was deleted.

      Good luck.
