Windows 11 24H2 I put a shortcut for the tool into the Taskbar so it is in front of me. Easier than a shortcut.

    • in reply to: How my Internet outage caused security problems #2705558

Rogers, a large internet provider in Canada, has different approach to wasps and hornets. When the Rogers “lawn wart”, the post in my lawn with the local distribution hub, was having issues, it was discovered that it had wasp nests. The Rogers technician brought a spray can of wasp and hornet killer out of his truck, sprayed the hub, dousing it generously, sat in his truck for 15 minutes, cleaned out the nests and went to work. You can spray the stuff from a respectful distance. No beekeeper necessary.

PC manufacturers don’t release Firmware/Bios updates to older than 3 years PCs.
My 2018 Lenovo y530 Intel Core i7 8750H Coffee Lake
got its last Bios update on 02.2021.

Much depends on the manufacturer, the motherboard and the processor. ASUS continues to issue BIOS revisions for some of their motherboards after five years. My most recent update, for a five year old motherboard was released in June, 2024 along with the latest Intel ME Update. My latest ASUS laptop BIOS was dated 2021.

The easiest was to find out your BIOS manufacturer and information is through any of the free processer utilities such as CPU-Z. It will give you all the information you need.

I have used the GeForce experience, as well. Very easy. I have used the manual method in the past, but moved to the new front end for convenience.

Thank you. There were Office patches in the latest patch batch, but obviously that that one.

The Patch Tuesday updates did not fix the misplaced search box. in Outlook.

    • in reply to: MS-DEFCON 2: Microsoft and compliance #2635407

Thank you for flagging the Outlook search box issue in your post. We noticed behaviour this recently in one of our two laptops. They are identical ASUS laptops, both with Office 2021 (not Office 365) installed. Each has different additional software installed, but are generally similar. One laptop computer, with Win 11 Home, showed the bug in Outlook while the other, with Win 11 Pro, did not. The bug also did not affect a third desktop computer with Win 11 Pro and with Office 2021 and not Office 365.  Just more Microsoft weirdness!

Thank you for this. Although I have migrated to Windows 11 Pro, the same advice to get rid of the nags and ads applies. Navigate System ==> Notifications ==> Additional Settings and at the very bottom are three check boxes to remove the Welcome, Getting the Most and Tips and Tricks nags. Just uncheck the boxes.

    • in reply to: Introducing Microsoft PC Manager #2596533

I have been using PC Manager for a few months. It’s very much a work in progress. Some functions work all the time. Some work occasionally. Deep Cleanup still won’t clean gigabytes of Windows Update files, for example. Thanks for the background on the program.

      Looks like this.

    • in reply to: Got a Windows configuration update? #2587745

That’s not the update being discussed here.

Servicing stack update is included with cumulative update every month.

The note from Microsoft seems to say the opposite.

Actually just got a prompt to reboot on the home Windows 11 22H2.

That is what greeted me this morning on two Win 11 22H2 (one Pro and one Home) computers.

I have a feeling that MS needed to get this out in a hurry for some security reason. Maybe I’m wrong there.

You are right. There is a security update included. See the link I posted.

This is a new update. It is a security update. KB5030219 (OS Build 22621.2283). Details below. It was a quick install with no apparent issues.

It also includes a Servicing Stack update. Perhaps preparing for the next version release?

This update makes quality improvements to the servicing stack, which is the component that installs Windows updates. Servicing stack updates (SSU) ensure that you have a robust and reliable servicing stack so that your devices can receive and install Microsoft updates.
