Jezza – that is a good one. I like that. I think that is what they were looking for. Thank you to all for responding.

Well I think we hold the record for the worst users.

Thanks for the reply. I figured that was the answer but was just double-checking to make sure I wasn’t missing anything.

    • in reply to: Locking Down Toolbars (Word 2003) #1008209

I’m not sure if this will work in 2003 but in 2002, if you arrange your toolbars and then do a Shift/File Save All, that will work.

We use Payne’s Numbering Assistant and it works great! Can’t say enough about it.

It is in the exceptions list; however, that is for the letter after it to be capitalized. It has nothing to do with a second period. However, good thought. We did delete it to see if it made a difference and it did not.

Hans, I did go through the steps you suggested and deleting the data key did work. However, it does wipe out all other settings that users had too. Not sure if that fix is worth it or not. We’ll have to discuss and decide. I still would like to know why we can’t delete just that one item instead of having to go so drastic as to wipe out all user settings.

Anyway, thanks for all your help.

    • Just a suggestion. We also have users on Citrix and we went in to the Citrix properties and changed the control keys for some of the features so that the users could use the shortcut keys in Word. For us it was a big issue, so we made the changes. It was worth it.

I will try this on one of the PC’s, but how could this be an issue with so many machines? I don’t know when it started. Some users said they’ve just noticed it recently and a few have said that it’s always done it. We’ve been on Word for over a year now. I think it must have been some sort of change that was made but I don’t know what. I’ll keep checking into things. Let me know if you come across anything else.

If we type encl without the period, it does add only one. Where the heck is it pulling it from? We’ve checked everywhere. Now, of course, the solution is to not type the period whenever you type encl but it shouldn’t work that way. I want to know why it does it on all but a few machines.

    • in reply to: Picture bloat-again (2003) #986422

I have Word 2002 and had the same problem a few months ago. I don’t know if it would be the same in 2003 but if you go to File Properties and remove the checkmark from the box at the bottom left “save preview picture”. That did it for me.

    • in reply to: formatting cells (2002) #984539

That was it! Thank you so much. I knew it had to be some sort of setting, but I just couldn’t figure it out. I don’t remember turning that on. Could it have been activated by something else I did?

    • in reply to: Print Multiple Docuemtns (Word 2003) #976747

I find it interesting that you can print multiple files from the File Open menu in Word. We have been trying to do just that for a year and cannot select a bunch files and then print them using the right button. It just doesn’t print. However, if we select the files and use the ToolsPrint option, it works. I’m just curious if anyone knows how we can get the right click option to work as well.

    • in reply to: Odd SpellCheck Dialog Behavior (2000 2002 2003) #973025

I just ran across this same issue and what I found was that we had added a custom toolbar and one of the buttons on there, we had a keyboard shortcut made that used ALT/G which is the same command used in the spellcheck box for ignore all. We kept getting a runtime error 4605. The funny thing is when we assigned ALT/G, it didn’t tell us it was being used for anything else, it said unassigned. Funny that they don’t tell you those things, isn’t it? Anyway, you might want to check to see if what you’ve added has a shortcut key of ALT/G. That seemed to be the only one of ours that was not working. All the others worked fine. We also have some third party applications loaded from Levit & James, but not Crosseyes. Maybe they took that keystroke for something? As soon as I removed my macro with that keystroke, it worked again in the spellcheck.

      Hope that helps some.

    • in reply to: Word XP (Mail Merge) #962811

I couldn’t agree with you more. I had the same feeling when I tried to use it for the first time. I just wanted to add that I also added the Mail Merge Helper button to my toolbar.
I did this by going into ToolsCustomize, then clicking the command tab and choosing the ALL COMMANDS category
and then scrolling through to find the MAILMERGE HELPER button
(A lot of users don’t realize the button is still available because it’s not listed in the MailMerge cateogry where it should be)
Drag this button to the Mail Merge toolbar
This button along with the Insert Merge Field that was mentioned earlier turns the mailmerge toolbar back to the way it was in previous versions.
It works great. I use it all the time.

    • in reply to: Autocorrect Non Breaking Space after the word Mr. #962627

This works. I just tried it. If you put Mr. with NO space in the Replace box and then type Mr. with the CTRL/SHIFT SPACE (for the hard space) on the With side, it will then let you add it.

      Hi Tony,

I’m glad I could help! It’s not too often I get to help in this forum. Everyone always knows the answer before I do. That’s why I use it myself. Mostly to get answers. I’m glad I could give some help this time!
