      Hello Viking33:

I don’t understand, I thought that it was just another important folder, and not a hack. Why would microsoft place a hack in the registry. Please excuse my ignorance, as I am not a techi, but I have an enormous fetish for keeping my computer fast and clean.

I would consider using a third party software, such as the one that you recommend as some kind of hack; please feel free to correct my statement.

      Best regards,

      Hello jscher2000:

I did exactly what you had recommended, I do use word as my email editor, only because I feel very comfortable with the great editing abilities, and spell check. I lowered the safety for the macro there was no other options that I could choose from.

Thanks for your time and support, much appreciated

      Hey SMBP:

Since you have shown me the Technet, I find that it is more beneficial for me to download the critical updates from Technet, the only thing that in the add and remove, I have all these files, for just updates, looks quite messy if you ask me.

Thanks for the tip on run time error; SMBP I read in another section of this forum that there is no search method will this change soon?

      Thanks a million

      Hello SMBP:

Thanks for your full support, I did take a look at the link you sent me, and I will take a look at the others later on, I took the lazy way out today, I used the XP update, only because there were so many, so tomorrow I will have a bit more time, on the technet update, that appears to be more more detailed with there facts, and I don’t feel worried, because I know that the update from technet offers more detail on how, when, where, why.

sometimes I have tried to click on a link, and then I get a run time error, I always click no what can I do to prevent this, a prime example would be the link you sent me from your previous post yesterday.

      thanks

      Hello SMBP, Dave A:

My Win xp came with the services pack 1,and today I tracked down all the file numbers just to make sure that I wasn’t duplicating any of the updates.

Yes, SMBP you are right I don’t feel so scared anymore, if anything I am just more cautious, a little scared but not like before. I don’t understand why this individual would take his time and effort to create such up evil, he could of spent that time help the law-enforcement find an easier way of tracking individuals who prey on young children online, if he was really smart he could of created a full proof software that could stop any and all virus, come to think of it he could of been a multi millionaire, but in stead let me classify him as a !@#$%.

Alright, I have gotten my frustration out, I just think that the life of technology will greatly surpasses us, and how long do you think people like myself would be interested on software and computers, IT staff would loose their jobs, developers would loose a lot of money, because eventually the general public would be fed up.

      Hello SMBP:

Alright, I have done the dirty I took the leap into the world of Win XP, but as soon as I stepped out, I was hit by the worm blaster, no fun at all. and for the first time I had to work in the reg, with no one to hold my hand it was like to blackout that happened last week.

I prevailed and was able to get read of the virus. Symantec offered brilliant instructions.

I would like to do the updates, but is the updates from technet more readily available.

      thanks

      Hello bigaldoc:

Missed your post, thanks for your answer, I am happy that I have found a fan base for the product, I did take a tour on their site, and then last week I found out about the Tweak program from MS, thanks to SMBP. Keep me informed of your follow ups. Walk a straight line because now I know that your the Tweak Master!

      Best regards,

      Hello SMBP:

Thanks for your informative advice; however I am scared of the registry, I have gone into the dark cave (Registry) many times, but only to delete like the palm folder etc. Unless someone gave specific instructions on how and what to change; that is as far as I am prepared to go.

When I first got my P4, I download the Cache file from MS Update, and totally bugged up my system; never again. Last night I did go to google groups and I type in HP 4400c + Winxp and I found that the particular scanner that I have was having problems, so Monday I will give them a call.

I did find a million dollars worth of information specifically the following:

      http://www.winsupersite.com/showcase/windowsxp_sg_clean.asp%5B/url%5D

after reading the site I became more at ease with the entire idea of changing to Win XP; I have taken your advice concering the full version, and I found that it was $299.00 Cdn, so I will have to shop around.

      regards,

      Hello SMBP:

I will follow up on your recommendations concerning XP; I would have really preferred to get the full retail, instead of the OEM, only because of the support would be there, I have been doing research on this product for some time now, so the basics I pretty well know how to do, it’s just the technical problems crashes and so forth.

The two links that you gave me I found to be useful, especially the second one. I found http://www.microsoft.com/technet, it just flows like a wild tree branch, full of information. It is a bit technical but very useful for me.

I need to find were in Canada I can get the full retail version cheaper. I will keep you posted; again thank you and everyone else for your full support.

      Hello SMBP:

How are you? I do apologize for not replying to your post, I haven’t been on since my last post. Thank you for the links; and not to mention the advice. I will always make sure to look up the latest version; I have not purchased my Win XP I will do the dirty next week Wednesday.

My brother has been nice enough to send me the Mag from England, I don’t know how long this arrangement will last for, so I told him I will pop the exchange rate in the mail; hopefully this will help him to keep sending the mag every month. I saw the little book “Control Panel Setting” it was $23.95 I took a small peak at it; not worth that amount of money. So I will try to find a Techi book instead; I do realize that the book will be much more, at the same time it will offer alot more help

Question, has anyone had any problems with their OEM version of Win XP and also is there a service pack 2 out yet?

SMBP, I’m not getting cold feet, it just I have been busy with my son’s swim lessons, so next week Tuesday will be his last day, and then I will be able to give this matter the attention it deserves.

      Take care,

      dillon

      Hello Viking33;SMPB:

SMPB – I will click on to the mag link that you sent me, and go from there; viking your statement was a real eye opener for me, I just don’t know were to go to find those types of software; however, I have asked for a tweaker program and I did get a few responses so when I have a pit of time I will review them.

Over here in Canada we have a long weekend, so I won’t be able to receive the purchase until about the 6th of August. I will keep you updated.
