This can be marked “solved.” For the record, I moved all the user folders I wanted to on my son-in-law’s Windows 10 laptop using the same procedure that I use on my Windows 7 laptop.

      RG:
Thanks. I must not have been clear up above. I’m still running W7 SP1.

My previous question in this W10 section, as well as this one, has to do with a new PC my son-in-law bought.

He asked me to set up Windows 10 for him since that’s what came with his 64-bit PC.

I do most of what you say above, on my own PC; but I’m trying to set up his machine.

I installed BitDefender free on his, and I’m trying to add another free anti-virus/anti-malware program to go with BitDefender.

      Thanks for your response,
      Dick

      Rick et al:

Would BitDefender by itself be sufficient for anti-virus and anti-malware protection on his PC?

My son-in-law is more frugal than I am, and wouldn’t pay for something like MalwareBytes Pro.

      Thanks,
      Dick

As I mentioned, this is my son-in-law’s computer.

I am working with it as is (as he bought it.)

      My question is:
Is the procedure the same for moving user data to a 2nd partition the same as it is for Windows 7?

It looks like it doesn’t support IE11???

      Thanks Access-mdb:
I use a modified Hosts file to control/block ads in IE11, which I use.

It was only a couple of days ago when I started seeing the top line of my inbox contain an add.

The 1st time I tried to open one of those ads it opened up and then allowed me to move it to my inbox, where I could delete it.

Of course, that was replaced with another ad immediately.

So, there’s only 1 ad at a time, at the top of my inbox.

      I’ll look into Ublock Origin.

Thanks for helping me clarify what help I’m looking for, by asking that question.

I’ve used Hotmail for years, so I guess the answer is outlook.com, which M_soft migrated me to.

      Satrow:
Thanks for your reply. I don’t think it’s infected. I was just curious after reading Fred’s article and following up on some of his links.

      I’ll try the hijackthis.de site 1st.

I 2nd what Calimanco says above.

I’ve used that free tool multiple times, and it has never failed me.

    • For Windows 7 SP1 with IE11, how do you turn autofill off?

      Thanks,

That’s what led me to want to get rid of Defender. I’ve been having the same thing happen to me.

My version is 3.04. Here’s what it says on the main page: https://www.malwarebytes.com/
